Pittsburgh Action Against Rape aka PAAR

PAAR offers a wide range of services, outlets and resources to assist survivors of sexual assault with the healing process. The staff of the organization is informed, genuine and devoted to its mission.

the immense impact they make on the lives of the clients they serve-- from one client they reach out to on their hotline to the thousands of students educated by advocates in schools across the county. The building design is also very effective in creating a nurturing environment

The diversity of programs and people that EECM reaches out to is inspiring. The programs they offer visibly impact the community. For instance, last year Meals on Wheels provided 25,239 meals to homebound and/or elderly individuals.

Coro Center for Civic Leadership

There have definitely been moments when I felt like I was cast on a reality show. The Coro Fellows Program immediately throws fifteen people with different passions, backgrounds, and experiences into challenging projects. Coro prides itself on experiential learning, and teaches its members practical lessons that go beyond the scope of the classroom. Fellows have access to prominent leaders in various sectors, mentors, and a great support system of talented, intelligent peers. You need to understand, from the beginning, that there are rigorous time constraints and expectations. If you enter the program willing to explore new perspectives and experiences, there are endless opportunities for you to grow both professionally and personally. The projects we have worked on are worthwhile ones that have the power to create large-scale systemic change. Just as important, though, the program allows you to explore who you are, including the goals you want to accomplish and the skills you want to develop.

the quality of the other fellows. It is amazing how such dynamic people with completely varied interests can come together with the outlying goal of improving the communities in which we live.

encouraging and challenging. They push you to think critically, test boundaries and provide inspirational quotes (intentionally and not). They are always there to assist you, though I'll stop myself from posting their cell #s on this site.

ditto to the stipend remarks of my fellow fellows. Also, they would be able to guarantee us all full-time positions post-graduation...
