National Museum of Women in the Arts, Inc.
December 19, 2011
The National Museum of Women in the Arts is a unique and very special organization in terms of its invaluable commitment to supporting living women artists and calling attention to the history of often-overlooked but exciting women artists of the past. Their museum is wonderful, with in-depth, exciting exhibits of paintings, photography, sculpture, and more. Their magazine for members on women and art is always a delight to read - only wish I lived closer to be able to actually visit their museum and participate in programs!

International Crane Foundation, Inc.

First became familiar with this group upon visiting their facility in Wisconsin - beautifully maintained and run, and wonderful chance to see and appreciate these gorgeous and interesting birds. The most important thing is that this group works both within the US and internationally not just to protect cranes, but to support the whole ecosystems and human/animal populations within which the birds live. I also give to more broadly-based environmental and animal groups, but I appreciate this focused effort too - as a biologist, I believe that the group's work rests on sound science and has a chance to make a real difference.
