MOLLYS ADOPT A SAILOR
April 14, 2012

Molly's Adopt a Sailor is a 100% volunteer $0 salary/overhead charity that ships care packages to our deployed troops on ships, bases and hospitals across the globe. Started in June 2008, we have already adopted over 20,000 Sailors, Marines, and Soldiers. We adopt a different group every month, and Military Moms and communities from around the country host packing parties and collect donations of snacks, toiletries, and little touches of love from home. We Stitch Love is our pillowcase project - handmade or decorated pillowcases for the troops to lay their heads on. The Special Hugs project has adopted combat support hospitals in Afghanistan to send love to our wounded troops. We rely solely on volunteers, donations and grants. The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

In September 2012 our community came together and shipped 95 boxes of love to the USS Chung Hoon during their long deployment.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Be able to pay Molly a salary - she gives 1,000% of her heart, her support, her time and her money. She has an incredible team behind her that supports and assists with her vision and sees it come to fruition. We need a permanent source of funding so we can continue sending love until they all come home.

For the time you spent, how much of an impact did you feel your work or activity had?

Life-changing

Did the organization use your time wisely?

Very Well

Would you recommend this group to a friend?

Definitely

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2012

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

A large donation or significant benefactor / sponsor. We have many corporations that have already been extremely generous with their items, and we are the recipient of several large grants as the result of online voting contests. We need more visibility / publicity to generate donations.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I have been given dozens, if not hundreds, of sisters, who are all experiencing the same thing that I am as a Military Mom, who wants to support and pray for all of our troops.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Incredible! Words can't describe the satisfaction of seeing months of hard work loaded onto a mail truck heading for the middle of the ocean "somewhere" on our planet.

MY ROLE:
Volunteer & Regular volunteer; hosted packing party for thet roops.

MOLLYS ADOPT A SAILOR

What I love most about Molly's Adopt A Sailor is how far they've come in such a short amount of time. In less than 3 years this group went from writing a few letters to Navy recruits in bootcamp with no support from home to shipping hundreds of care packages each month to deployed Sailors, Soldiers & Marines around the globe.

The camaraderie amongst "Molly Moms" is contagious and infectious.

LOVE YOU MOLLY!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The #1 accomplishment was winning the Pepsi Refresh grant of $50,000 to help pay for the shipping of the care packages. Seeing the results of each Packing Party - students, scouts, senior citizens and veterans come together to do their part. Seeing the thank you letters, emails and pictures come back from the lucky recipients

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The only change that I would make would be to make it BIGGER! They've been doing everything right and by the book since day 1.
