Greenie
Review for Discovery Green Conservancy, Houston, TX, USA
Discovery Green is a wonderful park offering a wide variety of free activities of interest both to families and children and to adults. The DIVERSITY of events taking place there is amazing. Many 'green' activities include a local fresh food market, recycling Saturdays, the annual "take me outdoors" activities with booths from Texas Parks & Wildlife, Sierra Club, Houston Arboretum, etc. Many artistic displays include the recent photo exhibits, a Dan Phillips gazebo, ice carving, etc. The health related activities include exercise classes, ice skating, and more. Then there are the free music and films. There are the spraying water in summer, ice skating in winter and other children's acivities. We recently found out that they have hoola hoops & frisbies just to lend to visitors on the honor system. Discovery Green seems to offer something for everyone regardless of his/her interests.
The Houston Park & Recreation Department does a wonderful job landscaping the park. Especially noteworthy are the large number of native plants used in the park.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
We saw the recent sport photo exhibit, the ice carving, New Year's Eve Art Car and Fireworks. I was at the "take me outdoors" activities the last two year. We have visited just for a walk on beautiful spring and fall days. If I lived closer or if parking were cheaper & more convenient, I would come more often.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Make easier or better connection bus from light rail on Main to Discovery Green. However, having to walk instead of taking a bus is probably more beneficial to one's health
