Kids In A New Groove
January 30, 2011
I am a music teacher for Kids in a New Groove, and it is one of the most unique and exceptional programs with which I have ever been involved. I see first hand the impact that music lessons can have on children in foster care or shelters, and I am constantly re-convinced of the life-changing power of music. These students work harder than most any I have had in my 10 year career of teaching music, and they are truly grateful for the time we spend with them. Not only the students themselves but the guardians of these children always have fantastic things to say about the students' progress, dedication, and hard work.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the way I experience music as an educator. Not only do I feel like I am making an impact on these students' lives, they do the same for me. I am a better educator and musician having worked with these students.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Find a way to provide every child at the shelters and homes I visit with lessons. One of the saddest things is to go visit a child and provide them with lessons, and see the other children watching with that look of "that looks fun" on their face.
Volunteer & I am a drum, guitar, and music production teacher for the Kids in a New Groove organization.
