Hill Country Daily Bread
November 30, 2010
I have volunteered with Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries for nearly 10 yrs. I started working in the clothing room then latter became coordinator of the household & furniture part of the ministry which encompasses everything except food & clothing. I also have been privaleged & gifted to be able to minister to multiple families through these years. The reason I have stayed with this ministry is I see God work miracoulsly in providing for families needs over & over again. There is no doubt in my mind that God blesses this ministry, the families in need, myself & my family on a daily basis. I say my family because of the much better person God has made me since serving Him in this manner. A couple examples of His work: I deliver a food box to a single working mom who tells me with pride & fear that she just signed her son up for cub scouts because she's heard it's such a good organization, She states, "I have no clue how I'm going to get him a shirt, thank God that's all they require."We pray togeather with her two children I ask God to provide a cub scout shirt for her son as part of our prayers. After I finish my deliveries, I take the food boxes back to the whse., check the clothing room per my routine at the end of the day & there lays a cub scout shirt, scarf, & clasp in the size this little boy needed. I smiled, praised God for his thoroughness (I'd only prayed for a shirt) & went back to the home for this delivery, The family was ecstatic, they couldn't believe it, the little boy then asked if we could pray that he wouldn't get sick in school any more. We did, when I went back in 2 weeks for my next visit delivery he said. "Jesus healed me, I don't get sick anymore" The amazing part of this is, that was the first & it has been the last cub scout shirt that I have seen in the clothing room. Most families in poverty don't ever consider signing their children up for extra activities, their main focus is food, shelter, & clothing, Another example of what I frequently see God do is not only provide the furniture, curtains, towels, ect. that families need, He frequently makes sure they match what they already have. He is so faithful & full of grace to His broken people. He has shown me He is truely an amazing all knowing God.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
seeing God work & provide.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Work toward having more christian volunteers, more home school students & parents, & more groups to volunteer.
Seperate the furniture, household, baby, & books into differant ministries. Discontinue accepting used toys,( families in poverty generally do spend money on toys at thrift shops to bring joy & laughter to their children on a ongoing basis.)
Have a donation intake person/group to sort donations.
Volunteer & Asked God to use me as His servant.
