My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Pace Center for Girls, Inc., Jacksonville, FL, USA
I have served on the PACE Board for six years and I continue to be amazed at how girls who are victimized, abused and at risk, eventually find their voices and begin to believe in themselves. Once this transformation occurs, there is no turning back. They begin to achieve academically and gain personal pride in their achievements. They learn to respect themselves and others and they become a natural support system for each other. PACE is just a place to learn and be counseled, it is a place to heal. PACE is a model program that should be duplicated nationally. PACE makes a difference without lockups and humiliation. PACE builds dignity. PACE works. Shortcomings? Not enough funding to attract, hire and retain teachers particularly in math and science.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Seeing the model work and girls succeed.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
The staff is very dedicated and exceptionally good. Regrettably in nonprofit work where the pay is little and the hours long, burnout is always a factor to be dealt with.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Serve more girls ages 12-18 throughout the country. The need is present and evergrowing. Because there are not enough PACE organizations even in Florida, let alone the nation, girls remain victimized and fall through the cracks.
Ways to make it better...
I cannot imagine a more fulfilling volunteer experience.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
One thing I'd also say is that...
Come and see for yourself. Like me, you will be amazed to see that PACE does make a difference in juvenile prevention and in the lives of PACE girls. Our stats demonstrate the ffectiveness of the program.
