My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Acorn Productions, Westbrook, ME, USA
I have enjoyed watching Acorn Productions grow over the years and with it, a group of skilled and well-rounded actors. I feel that Acorn, with its acting school as well as its festivals, including the New Playwrights' Festival, the Cassandra Project (women's plays specifically), Phyyzgig (festival of Physical Comedy) and the Naked Shakespeare company have all brought a high standard of theater arts to the Portland community.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
openness to new learning, new styles, new approaches, new playwrights. I find Mike Levine to be extremely visionary in the ways in which he involves the community in Acorn, and Acorn in the community. He has consistently brought quality work to the area
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
have a serious touring company for Naked Shakespeare, maybe tour the Pyzgig show, not sweat the rent every month, have a larger performance space in the downtown Portland area
Ways to make it better...
I'd like to see more Acorn members with professional technical training for the needed tech jobs. They usually hire out, but it would be great to train a core group of theater technicians from the inside.
