Review for KIDS LEADERSHIP COALITION INC aka SheHeroes.org , Santa Monica, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

If you can't see it, you can't be it. When I was growing up, I thought I'll be a doctor. However, I didn't really believe it until my mother introduced me to her female friend who was a doctor, because all the doctors at the time were men. SheHeroes aims to fill that gap by providing free online videos of women at the top of their fields in areas where women are underrepresented. The Executive Director is passionate about helping young women and practically is donating her time. We are a low budget high yield organization.

Review for Silver Ribbon Campaign to TRUST WOMEN with reproductive rights, San Francisco, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Silver Ribbon Campaign to Trust Women is a very low budget but high impact organization. They bring people together and are not proprietary about their work. The Silver Ribbon is very popular with every day people as something to take action and increase visibility. The Campaign has brought together groups that have NEVER done work together before e.g. MoveOn with PFAW, FMF, and other groups that don't usually work together.

What is this organization's top short-term priority?

protecting reproductive rights in the healthcare reform bill.

What is its top priority in the long run?

making sure that people have access to birth control and abortion, prevented unplanned/unwanted pregnancies, allowing women control over their lives.

Role:  Board Member & founder, and donate $$, ran a fundraiser, write blogs, speak on behalf of the campaign.

Review for Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, San Jose, CA, USA

Rating: 1 stars

As a donor, we just wanted signage that said "part of these foods were funded by an Anonymous Taiwanese-American Atheist and Buddhist" They said no. so we are giving our money elsewhere. What is the difference between acknowledging a donation from someone whose name is obviously of an ethnicity and who is known in the area for a certain religion and our request? They said it would be a slippery slope. I said, "I think this is like the journalism standard for pornography? You know it when you see it. and this is not offensive. it's simply a statement of fact."

Role:  Donor & Wanted to make a large cash donation.

Review for California League of Conservation Voters, Oakland, CA, USA

Rating: 4 stars

I am impressed with their Asian-American research into what motivates Asian-Americans to vote and to vote green. We had a great discussion that Asian-Americans are green, they just call it "green." They conserve. They recycle, etc.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

them seeking out input without seeking donation.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

excited, energized, inspiring. positive

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help increase the green in this world!

Ways to make it better...

they were national...

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

reaching out to the diversity of california

One thing I'd also say is that...

I'm glad I met them through the Asian-Am outreach I wish them lots of luck!

Review for Center for Reproductive Rights, New York, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This is the Legal arm of the Choice movement. They are the ones pursuing the cases to protect reproductive rights. The rights to sexuality education free from lies, right to choose abortion, right to contraception, etc.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the impressive amount of work they do

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

all very smart, very competent working very hard

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

protect more rights.

Ways to make it better...

i could help them raise more money

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

framing, messaging, fundraising to do more work

One thing I'd also say is that...

Without CRR, we wouldn't have the legal backing to protect our rights

Role:  Board Member & I am on their board.

Review for NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

NARAL is the political arm of the reproductive choice/freedom/rights movement. They are great in providing information about reproductive issues and research and analysis.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

protecting women's rights.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very intelligent. working their b--- off people, risking their lives

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

educate people that choice is not pro-abortion, but simply allowing each person to choose on their own prevent unwanted pregnancies by increasing access to contraception

Ways to make it better...

they had more events for "joe blow" ir they recruited men

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

framing and getting the word out. getting people to talk about the issue and think about it.

One thing I'd also say is that...

choice is about freedom of religion. Each person deciding according to their own religion and not pushing one choice on another person.
