As a teacher in the Rochester City School District I first became aware of the Rochester Children's Scholarship through our Guidance Counselor, Michelle Higgins-Marshall. She recommended that a student of mine apply to the program. This young lady was indeed accepted into the program and as a result of her good grades she was able to earn $100 for every marking period. She was involved in the program for the final two years of her High School Education. Because of this scholarship fund she was able to purchase a laptop to take with her to college this year. Without the help of the Rochester Children's Scholarship fund she would have never been able to do so as her family would not have been able to afford it. In addition, at the end of each school year there was an award ceremony at City Hall for all of the award recipients where they met Mayor Richards and Superintendent Vargas. They also had several other activities that the children could participate in such as attending a Red Wings Game. In closing, I highly recommend the Rochester Children's Scholarship fund. I found that the contact person that I worked with, Cheryl Testa, to be extremely helpful at all times with any and all of my questions and/or concerns. Sincerely, Lauri Davis Teacher, RCSD
