I have peripherally been connected to Made By Survivors since 2009. This amazing organization has been consistent in its support and sponsorship of women and children who are survivors--survivors of greater tragedies than I have ever known yet are pillars of bravery and strength with smiles that still light up rooms. MBS creates economic opportunities for a mother to have a better way of life for herself and her family, thus breaking the cycle of oppression and poverty. I recently visited the jewelry center in Kolkata and was amazed by the quality of the products. Skilled teachers have trained women in the art of jewelry-making, but these women then make it their own by creating new and intricately designed pieces. Whether it is volunteering, donating, or buying products, support this organization! They are truly making a difference in this world.
