I am a mother of twins and a wife of 12 years to a wonderful man. Last year, I became very breathless over a short period of time. First, I became out of breath by playing with my kids. The next thing you know, i'm having a hard time going up the 7 steps in our home. At work, I was having a hard time as well and had to frequently rest to catch my breath between patients.Within 4 months of the onset of my symptoms, I ended up in ICU with the only help for me was a lung transplant. I was so sick and couldnt breath enough to talk, eat or drink. I went to Duke Medical Center in North Carolina where they are number one in the country for lung transpkants and with the shortest waiting time. It was there where I was blessed with these wonderful new lungs from a very generous family who just lost a loved one. Things were great...I started karate, volunteering at my kids school, and had plans to go back to work. 11 months after I received my new lungs, I got very sick with a fever. I could not even lift my head. Locally, they did tests which revealed a very bad fungus in part of my lungs. Duke specializes in fungal infections, especially after transplant and they told me to come down right away to have the affected lung lobes removed, the only treatment with anti-fungal medication with the best chance of a good outcome. Miracle Flights got me there so I could have the emergent, lifesaving surgery. Thank you Miracle Flights...you are truly a miracle!!!got sick and had a fever and could not lift my head. After
