The American Israel Public Affairs Committee was incorporated on January 1, 1963, not in 1968. The articles of incorporation are on the web. AIPAC formerly served as the lobbying division of the American Zionist Council, AZC. The AZC was ordered to register as an Israeli Foreign Agent by the US Department of Justice on November 21, 1962. By reforming in a new corporation just six weeks later, AIPAC continued the AZC's work lobbying for the Israeli government. The US State Department reported in 1976 that AIPAC's executive director endangered US national security when he obtained Hawk missile secrets. In 1985 the FBI investigated AIPAC after it received classified industry information from an Israeli diplomat during trade negotiations. In 2005 two AIPAC executives were indicted (and never acquitted) for obtaining classified National Defense Information. Several formal complaints against AIPAC have been filed with the IRS and US Foreign Agents Registration Act unit of the Justice Department. These may also be found online.
