I have not visited as a volunteer yet, but PAWS is one of 2 TRUE sanctuaries in the North America and the only sanctuary that provides sanctuary to bull elephants. You only have to visit their website to know that this a compassionate, moral, ethical organization. Watch the videos of their permanently retired residents and you will see how happy they are.

I have not yet volunteered but follow PAWS closely since they offered Sanctuary to a circus bull elephant, Ned, who was confiscated from his owner by the USDA. Unfortunately Ned passed away before he could get o PAWS due extremely poor health. But sanctuary was offered to him as soon as he was well enought to travel to California.
