The Ragpicker is a new community based non-profit organization that prides itself on giving everyone the opportunity to recover from drugs or alcohol. In most companies before any one will assist you the first question is "Do you have any money?" As far as the president, Michele Granruth, is concerned - - her first question is "Do you want to live a drug or alcohol free life?" For those that answer yes, she and her dedicated staff make it possible to people who would not otherwise be afforded the opportunity due to financial status. The Ragpicker will link individuals and families to direct services that will allow them to recover in healthy environments so that their journey to recovery will be wholesome and pleasant.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have personally experienced the results of this organization because I work with clients that need social or human services. I refer clients to agencies that can further assist them with their needs. I try to teach positive self-management to clients that are new to recovery. Each and every day I witness the progress that clients make in this program.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would not make any changes at all. This non-profit raises the bar as far how organizations should treat clients that need direct care services. The staff go over and beyond the call of duty to ensure that each client has whatever it is they need in order to focus on their recovery. The Ragpicker rebuilds the lives of addicts and alcoholics so that people can return back to their families, jobs, and communities.

MY ROLE:
Volunteer & I help clients with whatever their need may be on any given day. Specifically, if clients need employment I refer them to job readiness and workforce development programs. If a client needs to get his or her GED, I link them with our educational program.
