The mission of The Vital Ground Foundation is to protect and restore North America''s grizzly bear populations by conserving wildlife habitat.
VitalGround is currently fundraising to secure its first two land acquisitions withingrizzly bear/wildlife linkage zones in northwestern Montana via the Cabinet-PurcellWildlife Linkage Initiative. The projects were identified by the Private Lands Working Group, an internationalteam of state and federal wildlife agencies, wildlife biologists, and NGOs. In theU.S. these are Vital Ground, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), andMontana Fish, Wildlife and Parks; in Canada these are the Trans-border GrizzlyBear Project and the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative.
Ofthe land acquisition priorities the Private Lands Working Group has set in theCabinet-Purcell Wildlife Linkage Initiative working region of northwesternMontana, two properties rank highest due to: 1) their current availability onthe open real estate market; and 2) their ripeness for development if sold tonon-conservation buyers and the subsequent threat of linkage disruption andwildlife displacement. The first property is located in the northern tier ofthe USFWS Cabinet-Yaak Grizzly Bear Recovery Zone along U.S. Hwy. 2, less thanone mile southeast of the Yaak River-Kootenai River confluence. The secondproperty is located just south of the Recovery Zone near Montana Hwy. 200, 2.5miles northwest of the Bull River-Clark Fork River confluence. Both propertiesadjoin Kaniksu National Forest lands.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
that they have a wonderful staff and work on making the organization grow to new levels. The funds are used to protect land for the grizz. It is a wonderful organization!
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the people involved and that they really care about the mission.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
protect enough land for the bears to move from eco system to eco system without the interference of man. They could help the bears to increase their numbers so they would not be endangered.
