Little Pearls, based in Weaverville, N.C., is a gentle, encouraging voice at a time when many are despondent and feeling overwhelmed by divisiveness and the challenges of our time. It produces beautiful, short films - somewhat like public service announcements - dealing with timely issues, such as the aftermath of 9/11, families with disabilities, wildlife rehabilitation, our relationships with dogs, the hopefulness of new life. Little Pearls has been a labor of love of a few highly dedicated volunteers who know that a hopeful, positive message can change someones day.

Little Pearls is a genuine grassroots labor of love, providing touching and timely small films that inform, inspire and prompt people to think more compassionately about one another, creatures and the environment. The films are conceived, produced and shared on a shoestring budget and are remarkably beautiful.
Little Pearls offers us hope and joy - especially needed in these tumultuous times. The tender stories are so important to help us remember that we are not alone, we are strong, and that little miracles are happening around us all the time. I feel like Little Pearls helps us all open our eyes a little wider and our hearts a little bigger.
Just great work. Films to show the great value in being a part of those who face great challenge with such grace and bravery. What an inspiration.
Little Pearls gently invites us to look at important matters in our world in an easy-to-understand way, to help is make the world (and ourselves) at least a little better.
I was drawn to Little Pearls as a pathway to deal with grief. It became an outlet connected with other people dealing with grief and lost and homecomings and being found. Dogs reconnected with owners brought a flood of tears. A short little video was a powerful metaphor for contemporary issues.
In these divisive times, there has never been a greater need for the work of Little pearls. Their work unites us.
As a 40-year media veteran and organizer of Media that Matters conferences, I've experienced Linda's dedication to produce heartfelt stories that bring us together in ways that we so badly need today.
This is truly media that matters, and we need more of it.
The stories shared in Little Pearls are overflowing with heart. A few moments with one of these is like a vacation for the soul - a respite from the often harsh realities of our time. Thanks for these gems.
The aptly-named Little Pearls shares pearls of wisdom, or a special story, or a lovely slice of life, through short and inspirational videos. Little Pearls was before its time in social media, and continues to produce these lovely tiny films. I remember when I was first captured by these online stories. Later, when I moved to a small town in North Carolina, I was delighted to learn that one of the Little Pearls creators was a neighbor. This winter, curl up on the couch and take the time to crack your oyster to view some of these beautifully-crafted short videos!
Thank you “Little Pearls” When one of those pesky irritants of life slips in, I can think of a “tiny film.” A film can tune me in to positive possibilities. Focus me on the abundance and joy of being fully alive. Here…Now An irritant becomes something beautiful! Instead of feeling irritated, I can live my life in Eternity/Kingdom/Paradise/Nirvana/Utopia, as a child (or Pooh). Oh Yeah!
It has been so touching to be connected to little pearls! Such amazing and touching films and I am so fortunate to have come across them!

I first learned about "Little Pearls" shortly after I moved to Asheville several years ago. In all my many moves around the country, I'd never encountered any project like it. Little Pearls is (are?) a real gift to all of us, and I feel very fortunate to live in a community where these stories flourish!
Little Pearls is a gem for highlighting the simple things in life that we all need to stop and cherish . Linda and her team work so hard and make these brief glimpses into the lives of remarkable beings seem effortless. Beauty at its best!
I have seen many of "the Pearls" for 8-10 years? From Amanda's story, to Dog Pearls, to the stories of ordinary but extraordinary people. They are beautifully and sensitively told showing us the miracles in everyday life. My heart is always lifted when I see them. What an amazing woman Linda McLean is!

Little Pearls remind me of the beauty, innocence, and joy at the heart of life. I so enjoy the uplifting spirit within these positive messages.
This nonprofit visually encourages, enriches, and inspires. In watching these everyday stories, I am encouraged to look for them in my community and honor them. The composition, filming and musical scoring is wonderful!
Linda's "Little Pearls" shine light in this sometimes gloomy world. Her sweet films are an inspiration to me to continue to look for and find the goodness everywhere.

With all negativity in the world, it's nice to have a place dedicated to showing a more positive viewpoint. Videos are always a source of good, uplifting news, people and events. Love it!
I have been a fan of little pearls because it reaches out and inspires others to give of themselves to help others. This is truly the gift that humanity so badly needs.
Little Pearls is truly a GEM! The stories touch my very heart and soul, often bringing me to tears! I watch them over and over, finding JOY everytime! Though some appear to be sad on the surface, the lesson behind them is AMAZING! We are all united and share this beautiful world. We often forget that it is our responsibility to care for ALL living things and to cherish the time we have here! I look forward to many more beautiful and heartwarming stories!
Little Pearls is a wonderful organization whose films bring a lot of hope, inspiration and joy to people. Each film shows a compelling and beautiful insight into the common threads that bind us all on this planet.
The Little Pearl films are very professionally done . They show great creativity and sincerity. I find them inspiring and heartwarming and they always bring a smile to my face. Eddie Gaines, Statesville, NC
Little Pearls is a uniquely compelling, heart-touching and heart-warming organization that is dedicated to producing "mini-media" moments that go right to the core of the true spirit of our human-ness. The name ("Little Pearls") is entirely fitting; indeed, Little Pearls are gems of insight that touch upon and express "heart zingers" that bind us all, and in the process, connect us to our common spirit that animates our lives.
There is nothing quite like "Little Pearls", and nothing that touches our souls in such a simple, direct, and touching manner. Wonderful, and beautiful!
-Bob Lantis
Little Pearls has help me get through many days of being lonely and feeling sorry for myself since losing my husband of 42 years. The founder is a caring person who can lighten a persons
spirit just by watching these short films . I hope more people can enjoy the work of Little Pearls and have a better day and help others.

Little Pearls is a brilliant non-profit that produces brief little messages from the heart that touch your soul. These little gems are a reflection of the executive director and co-founder, a woman of both intelligence and deep compassion who understands that the world needs these little films. I wholeheartedly agree.
Little Pearls affect me on many levels. They affect me emotionally, as they bring to light the beauty that surrounds us but is often otherwise overlooked. They also affect me physically, as I literally exhale as I watch the beautiful videos and can feel the tension in my body lessen as I'm reminded of the beauty.
Little Pearls make you stop, smile, and take notice of our world.
Little Pearls is waking us up to the preciousness of life. Thank you, Linda McLean and Little Pearls, for opening our hearts to love and compassion while opening our eyes to the extraordinary wonder of ordinary moments.
Little Pearls delivers positive messages of hope, love, and joy in 30-60 seconds. These short videos help to make our would a more compassionate place. Watch them and the emotion and drive to help others will take over. Lots of impact with little screen time!
As an attorney, sitting at my desk bombarded by information and words, endless words, what a pleasure to find a Little Pearl of pure emotion. If we each took an occasional break to view one of Little Pearls’ short films, it would be a marvelous reminder of the power of images, and that witnessing the love of an animal, strength in the face of hardship or the kindness of a stranger, can bring us a bit closer together in a conflict driven world. I personally know the principals in this project, and the compassion, love and selflessness they exude as individuals is reflected in their work. The energy and time spent on Little Pearls films is an act of love with a large reward for the viewers.
It's such a simple concept: little films making a big difference. Little Pearls is way ahead of their time in making great content that is short enough to make you just click "play" immediately. The content is beautiful and inspiring-- this non-for-profit needs to be known!
Little pearls is a great organization. They were very accommodating to my son and his needs. I enjoyed working with them and look forward to doing more in the future.
Little Pearls makes beautiful, inspiring, moving films that highlight the good in our world. And that's something we all could use a little more of, is it not?
Little Pearls content will stand the test of time. Never will love, commitment, inspiration, and courage go out of fashion.
As a busy mom, I rarely have time for watching videos, but Little Pearls is the the perfect midday snack to nourish my heart and remind me of the good in life. I love indulging on a whole string of pearls when I can! :)
All I can say is WOW!
Thank you Little Pearls for inspiring me and reminding me of all the good there is in the world!
Can't say enough positive things about Little Pearls! I've enjoyed watching their films so much, and appreciate what Little Pearls has done to put a smile on my face and in my heart. Little Pearls has a way of capturing a lot of feeling in a short amount of time. I've truly enjoyed their films!!
Little Pearls is amazing! These videos breathe life into a medium that is digestible, practical, and shareable. It reminds me that we don't need millions of dollars to say something important. These films matter, and they open up a conversation. Little Pearls can change the world, I know it!
I'm not much of a jewelry gal, so I'm not quite sure if a pearl is technically a gem. But I do know that Little Pearls are absolute gems that go straight to the heart. These short films cover universal topics that are important to our world and its people. My son doesn't get much screen time, but he has seen all of these. There is such a positive, uplifting, heartfelt message in them all.
Little Pearls has created a dialogue with my patient base that is very respected and loved for their spirited presentation of "all that we are possible of." Folks really need to see graphic examples of possibility. DVD's of Little Pearls have been so very well appreciated !
To be called forward in ourselves to contribute and be part of something larger than ourselves is truly a gift. Little Pearls over and again displays the spirit of calling that forward, that which we most deeply wish for our grandchildren. Thank You !!

I have experienced the healing power that Little Pearls has facilitated in our community regarding widely varying circumstances of challenge, pain and the possibility to transform such into a positive outcome. For example, they have produced a simply beautiful "Pearl" concerning Amanda Levesque, a young woman with serious physical handicaps yet great spirited determination to live her dreams. Such a great and inspiring example to put forth publicly in these days of mullt-faceted challenge. This story is of particular power for me because Amanda's Mother is a dear friend of ours and the "Pearl" is so empowering to Amanda and her family. Thank You !!
I can always count on Little Pearls for a warm pick-me-up. The subjects are inspirational, and the photography is beautiful. Keep up the excellent work!
I have been continually impressed with the films from Little Pearls. They are impactful, powerful, and poignant. Each "little pearl" contains a universal message with such elegant visuals. I wish everyone had an opportunity to see these magnificent creations.
I have been working for a small record label for 12 years, and have seen our artist's music used for a variety of projects. The "Little Pearl" that featured our artist's recording in the background is the most inspiring gem of a short film that I've ever seen, and their other works are all heart-warming and thought-provoking. I highly recommend Little Pearls' work.
I have been licensing music by recording artist great and small to not for profit, community and charity projects for 23 years. The Little Pearls films are among the most heartfelt, effective and creatively satisfying out there. I would have no hesitation recommending their work to any of my artist clients.
I have been enjoying Little Pearls for years and especially enjoy turning people on to this work. It is so wonderful to find media shining a spotlight on what is BEAUTIFUL in the world - and as much REAL as the horrors we typically see in the media. I feel it is vital to keep our focus on the light so we don't give up in despair.
I have been intimately involved with Little Pearls since it's inception. These short media pieces help to create understanding, empathy, and love for the many blessings we experience in our lives.
In a world where bad news seems to be increasing exponentially Lil Pearls reveals the truth. And the truth is that not only is the world a good place, it is actually getting better. Bless these folks and the driving force behind this non-profit, the wonderful Linda McLean!
getting to the escence of issues, bringing a beautiful glass to help us see tiny significant moments, setting intention to keep it short and powerful....Little Pearls has excelled at these goals time and again. I look forward to many more topics undertaken by this non-profit.
I have been blessed to witness Linda, head and heart of Little Pearls in action. This woman has so much love and wisdom to give. It is beautiful to watch how many lives Linda touches in such a positive way. I had the gift of being able to help with the filming of one of the Pearls and everyone went above and beyond the call for such a great cause. It is rare to have the ability to capture such wisdom and heart in short films, I believe this is what Linda came to do. In our fast past world, we need uplifting media and Little Pearls is an apt name for these tiny films.
Little Pearls are delightful and inspirational. I often go back and revisit Little Pearls when I need a boost to my spirits or a reminder of what is important in life.
Little Pearls is one of the most heart-opening and effective nonprofits in our area. LOVE Little Pearls!
Little Pearls has enlightened and inspired our community through positive tiny films. I have volunteered for several Little Pearls events. This non-profit is vital to our community for its positive pearls of wisdom and hope.
Little Pearls, "tiny films that open hearts and minds" is a non-profit that is close to my heart. It is so vital when the media is full of negitivity, fear and hate to have films that inspire authentic connection and compassion and for all living beings.
In the spring of 2011, I met with Linda McLean, Executive and Creative Director of the non-profit, Little Pearls. I resonated with Linda’s strong interest in using media as a consciousness-raising tool. I began a volunteer internship with Little Pearls in the summer of 2011 and was invited to serve on their Board of Directors in 2012.
Doing volunteer work with Little Pearls, I was able to visit several local recording and editing studios as Linda produced and directed several Dog Pearls. The Dog Pearls celebrate the wisdom and love of dogs. These beautiful Dog Pearls guide us through various life experiences such as joy, grief, love and loss. Little Pearls are usually only 30-60 seconds in length. The volunteer experience with Little Pearls helped me realize the power of a short film to connect, inspire and transform. Linda McLean continues to be a great friend and mentor. I am inspired with the compassionate intention and skill that goes into each short film.
Each film made by Little Pearls is a tiny gem that lovingly plants a seed of hope and change. Little Pearls skillfully explores universal themes that remind us of what truly matters and how we are all connected.
Most Little Pearls are only 30-60 seconds which are perfect for this fast paced world and easily shared on facebook and other social media.

The work of Little Pearls touches the heart and soul of many. They are inspiring little films that cover the range of joy, sadness, world disasters, important people to know about and dogs to admire and are for all ages. They convey many messages and can help people though difficult times as well as share lessons of compassion. I have watched them many, many times and am always moved through many emotions which often lead to tears of many kinds.
Every month our restaurant raises money for a local non profit. For the last several years Little Pearls has been a focus of one of our drives. It is run by great people who do remarkable work impacting people with short inspirational films. I highly recommend them
Little Pearls are uplifting videos that leave one with a smile. They're filled with love and hope, often not uttering one word to do so. They honor life.
These short little pearls are, as far as I know, unique in concept and execution. Other reviewers here have beautifully described how they are designed to touch hearts and make an impact in the world. The fact that they have been offered to the world as a labor of love is a strength and a deep challenge. I trust that those who have seen any of these films have been impacted in wonderful ways, and I would love to see these films grace the screens of more theaters and viewers. And I would love to see the financial support for these little pearls to provide for a vibrantly healthy and sustainable endeavor!
These stories open your heart, widen your perspective and bring joy to all who see them.
the stories capture the essence of compassion, joy, and wonder at the beauty of this life.
it tackles tough subjects with new eyes helping all think differently
I look at their videos for inspiration and uplifting. they are the best!
I am a huge fun of Little Pearls whose commitment to creating short films that exemplify the best efforts of humanity and the animal kingdom are unsurpassed. This organization has produced these heart warming, meaningful videos that do more than inspire the human heart. They motivate one to reach inside oneself to step up to the plate and do something meaningful rather than check out by whatever means they so choose.
Little Pearls are tiny-yet-powerful films that have brought tears, laughter and a new way of seeing things to me and to so many others who have had the chance to experience them.
They can help to shift perspective by opening hearts and minds to the beauty that is everywhere in our lives. Openness to new ways of perceiving and being is SO needed in our world now.
Watching just a couple of these "Pearls" can bring me back to a sense of balance when I need that. They inspire me to be my best self. I wish the whole world could see them!
I got involved with Little Pearls after meeting its Executive Director, Linda McLean, during another project, Linda McCartney's USA Garland Appeal. We worked closely on the media display material I provided and art auction.
She then invited me to see one of their films, "Dr. Willie". I became a donor and Little Pearls allowed me to "adopt" the film for a year.
I was hooked. I had to see all of the rest of them. The film, "After the Storm" about Hurricane Katrina is a powerful statement regarding social justice. All of them have unique viewpoints.
When the Executive Director (ED) asked me to come to a focus group, I signed on. For the last two years I lived in Asheville, I gave thousands of dollars, hundreds of hours of time and advice. Even though I left 4 years ago, I am still in touch and give my advice on board governance, development, social media and other matters.
We were very moved by the Little Pearls sampler when we first saw it four or five years ago. There's been a long drought where not many new Pearls have been made -- I hope that 2011 will mark the end of that era!
Little Pearls tell the stories of ordinary people who have done very special things for others or for the world, or, who have faced difficult challenges and rose to overcome them, or become better people, as the result of their struggles. These short videos are an inspiration every time I see one. They pack a maximum wallop in a minimum amount of time, and are excellent value for my donation to help with filming or screenings, or, for any idealistic person/organization trying to make this a better world for all humankind..
Little Pearls have been an inspiration to me. I have used them, with permission, in music concerts to add multi-media content. I have been continually impressed, and have enjoyed watching the emotional response of audiences to these moving short films.
I fully support this non-profit and their mission; the world is better for having Little Pearls in it.
Little Pearls is a unique organization with a very special product. Nonprofits one and all try to get 'their"message out in some unique way. The first unique thing about Little Pearls is "their" message is "our" message as it is universal and ever changing, bringing us those stories that touch our lives and make us aware. Second it is their ability to tell such stories. The finished product is superior and as their name suggests each message is a little pearl that will speak to you and stay with you.
Little Pearls are gems! They show compassion, inspiration and our true Unity. The integrity of Little Pearls is a great role model for other organizations that are impacting our world.
Little Pearls reminds me that life is best lived with respect, faith and gratitude. LP's films may by "tiny," but they have a big impact upon our community. I'm a dog lover, so I especially like the heartfelt dog pearls. I also like the way LP uses local talent (human, dog, owl, etc.). Very inspiring and uplifting messages, beautifully rendered by the skilled LP creative and technical team -- pearls of hope in a sea of challenging times.

Little Pearls' short films is an art form that seeks to enlighten, engage, lift and strengthen. They are films that educate, inspire, and draw deep on emotions. I especially love the dog pearls, because animals sheltering and rescue are my passion. To see the dogs romping in open fields with such great joy, and also to see "Spirit Dog" about those who have left us, was an amazing experience. I watched them over and over, and I will do so again, especially when I or a friend loses a beloved pet. The director of Little Pearls, Linda McLean, is one of the most soulful, spiritual, gracious and loving people I know. I treasure her and respect her work. She is one of the main reasons I contribute to Lillte Pearls.
You cannot watch a Little Pearls film without smiling. You can't help it as you see a child's gleeful laughter while painting, two dogs joyfullybounding through a field of flowers, or a sweet baby smiling as she explores her world. Little Pearls films do exactly what they are intended to do. Spread the love and compassion for others.
Over the years, I've been involved in many non-profit organizations. It's hard to put my finger on what - specifically - is different about Little Pearls. Really, it's not just one thing, but many.
Starting with its founders. Two amazing women with a vision.
Two creative, generous souls who saw the need for more positive messages in a trepidatious world
I've had the wonderful opportunity to befriend them both and to spend time with, assist, and observe Linda McClean, the amazingly dedicated, hardworking director. I bear witness to the long hours and selfless perseverance she contributes to this beautiful organization every...single...day.
With tireless and irrepressible devotion, she takes our positive visions and shapeshifts them into works of art - short enough to fit any media slot, with so much beauty that they bring tears to the eyes of children of all ages. (My mom, who's 88, will attest to that!)
Tears - happy, caring tears - in our eyes - through which we are able to catch a glimpse of a better future.
I've had the opportunity to be part of the creative process and to witness - from the brainstorming of an idea to the finishing touches - the creation of a Pearl. What a gift!
Little Pearls is not little in the effects it produces in the people who watch. It's BIG. It has a calming, peaceful, hopeful, stimulate- one- to- help- more effect. These pearls call us to be better folks, neighbors, friends to animals and others, not to judge.....to believe there is good in the world, more good than we see, but the current of it is right there flowing along......and their staff is harvesting rich pearls from the stream.
In a world plagued by big problems, we sometimes convince ourselves that there's nothing we can really do to solve them. "Little" solutions, however, are sometimes exactly what the situation calls for. Little Pearls makes small films that make a huge difference in peoples' perceptions and attitudes. Through Little Pearls, those otherwise "big" problems begin to melt away. I urge your support of this wonderful organization.
Singing dogs. Baby owls. School children. Gentle-spirited farmers reaching out to other farmers. A young woman who, even disabled, has learned to dance. An old woman whose rich laughter speaks of an equally rich life. Each pearl is part of a long and lovely string of pearls that has, is, and will continue to touch and enrich lives. Mine included.
These tiny films, crafted with such loving artistry, are gifts to a world longing to believe in something better.
As a professor who teaches environmental and cultural studies, I use Little Pearls to demonstrate that positive storytelling is vital to creating sustainable and just futures. Little Pearls 'mini-films' are successful in creating powerful storylines and images within a very short time frame. The films remind us what is important in life, and in our communities, including how animals are part of our communities. I believe that, with additional financial support, Little Pearls should be produced with subtitles in many languages so that others around the world can enjoy them. [perhaps not the Sept 11 Pearls.]
Little Pearls are important sources of light, joy and hope in a world that often seems too dark, especially for young people.
Little Pearls opens the hearts and souls of all who see the beautiful, love-filled vignettes. In a world where bad news rules, Little Pearls offers the flip side to the sadness - and makes us all believe in the power of love.
Little Pearls has done a great job of reaching out to the folks who live in Western North Carolina and touching their hearts and minds through their compelling short videos.
LIttle Pearls so exquisitely offer quick, delightful, entertaining vignettes to re-align us with basic values centering around love. This organization deserves to grow and grow!
Little Pearls produces incredible public service announcements that drop a “pearl of wisdom” on a world that often spins in chaos. They remind us of important social issues that need human care and concern. I love this organization and the beauty they share with so many.
Little Pearls is wonderful! The messages are so inspiring. They are important reminders of the special things in life. Just to name a few: love, being of service, generosity and kindness. The Pearl about the little dog who helps children read made me cry. How sweet! And what a wonderful teaching that we can all give something, no matter what obstacles we face in life. Everyone I have shared Little Pearls with has felt joy in their hearts as a result of viewing them. What could be more important than that?
I have been loving Little Pearls - the folks who make it happen and the Pearls themselves - for several years now. The time and energy and thought put into the concept and production of every Pearl is amazing and so is the result. Any and all ways to get these Pearls in front of more people should be a top priority - they spread hope, joy, love and the clarity of why we all should be so ever grateful for what and who we have in our lives on this beautiful planet. These Pearls are precious, but they need not be rare. More Pearls for everyone, I say!
With so many advertisers shouting for attention visual media can feel like something to tolerate at best, and survive at worst. Little Pearls turns all of that upside down. When I first saw "Farmer to Farmer" I felt such pride and gratitude for American farmers who represented the best of all of us to their British counterparts at a time of deep concern. When "Child to Child: Heart to Heart" aired after 9/11, this message offered healing, hope and a simple reminder of our connectedness as a national community. I'm honored to be a supporter of Little Pearls and am confident that with more financial resources, Little Pearls can make a Big Difference.
I just watched three Little Pearls and I feel like I've been to church! Uplifted and connected to the world and others. So much that's so good in such a small treasure. I watched Great Katie and read one of Glenis Redmond's excellent poems. Then I watched Spirit Dog. And then Child to Child Heart to Heart. A nice balance of connection to the natural world, connection to history and connected to other humans living right now. I'm going to go and watch some more after I finish typing this. I'm going to share them with the children in my life.
My heart is ever and always opened wider each time I experience a new Little Pearl! The world is a much brighter place and I am a more evolved human bee~ing that is part of the dance of life from having these windows of light streamed into my consciousness. Thank you Linda from the bottom of my heart to the top!
Day-to-day life can be fraught with difficulty or it can be filled with positive glimpses into goodness and light. Little Pearls reminds me that there is good everywhere, that the world is, indeed, about Loving and Accepting who we are and are not and who others are and are not. Having a bad day? Pull up a "Pearl" or two and smile your cares away.
You've heard of public service spots? Little Pearls are public uplift spots. They surprise with their authentic messages of love, understanding, and communication -- in contrast to the sales-rush and truth-distortion of many ads. They're a breath of fresh perspective.
Little Pearls provides a visual medium for inspiring and thought provoking cinema that will add to you day and life. I've had the honor of sharing these little films with hundreds of families in the Asheville and surrounding area. Thank you for the vision to provide these "Little Pearls". As Tony the Tiger says they are grrrrreat!
Once our world was totally filled with commercials that were self serving and xxxx. Now thanks to "Little Pearls" we can breathe a little easier, not feel bad about looking for the good in people, and take a moment to enjoy and enrich our hearts and souls. The art work and cinematography are breathtaking, the message clear...love each other, from the heart, harm no one or thing and cultivate peace.
When I first experienced the "sampler" of Little Pearls I was moved to tears and inspired so deeply that I felt compelled to find a way to support this incredible organization. The vision of these heart-opening pieces being on television gave me hope that not only could that media be uplifted, but also the hearts and minds of millions, just as mine had been. The sensitivity, awareness, and deep compassion reflected in the themes and production of each little pearl leaves the one watching profoundly present, moved to a sense oneness with all creation. If ever there was an effort worth supporting, Little Pearls is it!
I am moved by the work of this organization. Its video shorts are like commercials for...well, for all of the things that should have commercials but don't. They are reminders of the special people and emotions in our lives that don't have their own endowments, special interests or campaigns. Ironically, there just isn't any profit in lifting up friends and emotions strictly for their own sake.
I have been so impressed with the clear intention, dedication and creativity of the two founders of this amazing project! They were both inspired by their dreams and have managed to effect change in the hearts and minds of any who have viewed their short, but oh so powerful little films. Perhaps change is not the right word, because what these little masterpieces do is touch a part of us which has so often been buried under the weight of the "news" that we are bombarded with. They speak to the part of us that resonates to love rather than fear. The variety of films they have produced so far on such a limited budget attests to the vast potential of Little Pearls if properly funded. Messages sent from children in NC to children who lost parents in the 911 attacks... messages from farmers in NC to those in Great Britain during the "mad cow" epidemic .... pearls about animal rehabilitation, kids playing violins while their dog "sings" along...pearls about the wonder of a baby and the beauty of the aged ... you must go to the web site and view them all!!
As an educator and researcher in new media and digital technologies I first encountered Little Pearls at a Media that Matters conference and was not only impressed with the quality of their work but also with its sensitivity to their subject matter. I continue to follow the development of Little Pearls and admire their ability to succinctly represent matters of the heart which touch us all in one way or another.
The simplest things in life are often the most profound. These "little" things, unencumbered by too much information, can reach right into someone's heart and change attitudes, actions, and feelings. The Little Pearls films do exactly that. I have been so moved, so touched by these short videos that I am convinced the world would be a better place if more people could view them.
Little Pearls distills truths to a pure communication heart to heart. Each one tells a story within sixty seconds. They remind us of our connection with life, and they do so with wit, words and images that linger in the mind. I have played a demo containing a half dozen Little Pearls to many people. Always they catch their breath and smile: more than not there are a few tears.
Little Pearls make me laugh, make me cry and lift me up ... They remind me of our essential nature, which is good, and in these wild times, I believe all human beings need help remembering that. Little Pearls reflect the best of ourselves back to ourselves. They are tiny films that open hearts and minds. And they are one of the most lovely mindful creative use of multi-media that I know ...
Little Pearls, in my opinion are a valuable comodity to our community, our country, and this world. Why? Because people need inspiration, upliftment, and to be enriched by the beauty of life. Little Pearls capture the moments, the words, the music of what we treasure in life showing us remarkable human beings and animals alike. We need more positive and inspiring media like this to enrich our lives and Little Pearls knows how to capture our hearts and enlighten our souls.
As host and prodcuer of Women On Air on NPR member station WETS, I was pleased to have Little Pearls producers as interview guests on the show. With their clear intentions and heartfelt attention toward film subjects, Little Pearls certainly do stand out as uplifting, endearing, informing and affective messages. Lovely work, valuable to many, and deserving of recognition and support.
I represent a small foundation that has the fundamental mission of supporting "life enhancing" efforts. Our grantees span a spectrum from animal rescue to environmental advocacy and spirituality. Little Pearls was one of our earliest grant recipients, chosen for the exceptionally powerful voice it gives to the spirit of wonder and the gentle charge it makes to each of us to be aware and to take responsibility for our part in protecting all the little pearls of our lives. Beverly Johnston, Blessings Project Foundation
The Little Pearls organization brings beautiful stories to the public that would otherwise go unseen. Each of their short films educates the public to the wonderful people and causes in their community. Little Pearls produced two short public awareness films about my work as a wildlife rehaber and the volunteer work of my therapy dog, DR Willie. These two wonderful pieces of video art educated the public about the importance of helping wildlife and about the hospital therapy dog program. This media exposure brought new people into both of these volunteer programs. I have been a bird of prey rehaber for 25 years and i must say that the 30 second Little Pearls filn did more to help wildlife than all my efforts of going it alone for so many years. I think we would all agree that this world needs help before we destroy it and ourselves. Great individuals have walked this earth and done great things, affecting change in many, planting healing seeds. However, what we need to have happen is to raise the "collective" conscience of many, of societies and nations...and this is exactly what Linda MacLean and LITTLE PEARLS is ALL about: raising consciousness, inspiring loving and caring Energy to be sent out via what I call "Spiritual Postcards" that are professionally produced. When you see one of the PSAs come on TV, you stop dead in your tracks, speechless. No ads or commercialism. Only Goodness. Only positive, loving messages of spiritual celebrations. With the internet reaching the masses, it is yet another important highway to help get their message out. Alas, there are no free lunches, and anyone who donates to LITTLE PEARLS will see their dollars go into production of more messages, to get out to more people, to help raise the global Conscience. We need more LITTLE PEARLS in this world, the 'postcards' and organizations like them.
