Erowid is truly an excellent source for information about plant medicines and psychoactive chemicals. I have used it as a reference for decades. Erowid has most likely saved me from some negative experiences that result when you don't have enough information and decide to just try something without properly knowing dosage and effects.
We absolutely need Erowid: with the unjust war on drugs still lingering and affecting how society degrades and demonizes "drugs" (while consuming quite a lot of "drugs" such as sugar, caffeine, alcohol, aspirin, etc). Psychedelic plants and chemicals are not going to save us, but they are powerful tools and allies to help society. And more knowledge is ALWAYS a better thing, in terms of understanding the wealth of natural medicines and their histories. Banning recreational "drugs" is also not a solution to harm reduction: education and mental health support is.

Erowid is my rock for details on substances. I've been the go to for safety information for friends who may have made much more dangerous, impulsive decisions. I always direct them to this website if they seem receptive.

This was no ordinary trip, so I will start off by saying Wow, I really did not know what I was getting myself into before taking these, I strongly suggest before taking psilocybin to listen to what I have to say. So one day, Me and four other friends decided to have a Shroom trip, This was my first time ever doing it, and two of my other buddies have never taken it, and the other two have tried it before, And being me at the time, I thought it was just going to be like weed when in reality it was nothing like it, so going into the trip I took 4 1/2 g and my buddies all took 3 g and they were the polkadot mushroom bars and I thought that I was a hotshot taking the most out of which was a complete mistake on my end unfortunately, So we take the shrooms and we walk to this park and all of us are just sitting on this grass field that we walked to on a pretty warm day so all of us were pretty hot, And then, I start seeing these little violet spots in the sky, then all of a sudden everything starts becoming super calm if that makes sense and I can hear everything, all of my senses were super heightened, and I could see the dust particles coming toward my eyes as I was staring out into the distance, all of my friends started tripping, and they were looking at the tree bark and just kinda like laying down looking at the sky, and everyone was kind of having a good time including me, Then me and my other buddy walked over to a bench, and then it really started to hit me. I laid on this bench and started to think super deeply in my thoughts, and I started to to say “uh oh you’re gunna have a bad trip” over and over again, and then I actually started to have a bad trip. It was the weirdest thing ever I started a snowball of emotions that I had no clue that even existed, so then, my other buddy to the right of me wasn’t having a good time either, and I realize because I saw his facial expressions and my facial expressions were the same. I don’t know if anyone has experienced the same thing, but it felt like my face was melting into the ground because I was so scared. It was such a crazy experience, and all of my other buddies that have taken them we’re having a good time and unfortunately for me I didn’t know that I was not accepting the feeling until about 30 minutes into the trip, so we started walking back and my face actually turned into a tomato. It was so red and I started sweating profusely and my feet and my shoes were completely soaked from how much I was sweating. I took my shoe off and if I squeezed it would come out. So we all got back into the house and I just laid on the floor and looked at the ceiling and the ceiling was changing colors rapidly. It was turning like a light green like a light of orange to like a light of purple , my other buddy just went into my other buddies room and we didn’t see him for another four hours, but I’ll get into that later so I went into his guest bedroom, and of course, to my right was a giant mirror staring straight at me as I left the living room to get away from everyone because I wanted to be alone for some reason, so then I stand there staring at myself and it is such a crazy thing to say but I saw essentially my body and my spirit separated for myself, and I was looking at my body like I was just a piece of flesh being borrowed if that makes sense, and then I laid in his bed and I tried to sleep it off and you can’t sleep off mushrooms, so I just close my eyes and I was just stuck with my thoughts just going deeper and deeper and the most random stuff you can ever think of , so I was like “ I need to be around people to feel better” and so I went out into the living room and my brother which has done them before was staring at me and I was like dude stop staring at me like you’re scaring me like dude i’m actually tripping balls bro and I’ve never felt this way before like you’ve got to help me out. He’s like dude just chill and I have no clue so I was like OK. Let’s play some Fortnite so I put on the Xbox and boom away all that anxiety and everything was instantly gone, and I started accepting the feeling I’ve never felt so involved in something in my life then playing that game , Everything was in slow motion, the bullets, the character moving, and including the other characters coming toward me, then I go outside and all of my buddies decide to come outside, except my one friend that is still in the bedroom. We all grab the bong and we hit it and seen the smoke. Inside of the bong The craziest thing you ever look at and we turned our heads and my buddy said hey look at the trees are dancing at you. They’re literally dancing at you. It’s wild but they actually were dancing at me like to say they’re dancing at me is crazy because you see nature so normally and when you’re on mushrooms, it is something so different like you feel connected with everything and it like almost made me cry because it was so beautiful the trees sway and another thing. I don’t know if you are familiar with the starry light picture or I don’t know if that’s exactly what it’s called but there’s like the swirling wind. We could literally we all saw the wind moving and swaying. It was so crazy. They’re like very thin clear dash lines and obviously the sunset was the most amazing thing you ever seen, but the craziest thing about this trip was that when we were sitting in that circle we were all talking and all of us were connected on one wavelength so if someone had a different vibe/feeling would feel and I only knew because my brother said “let’s go get your girlfriend and have her to drive us around and see everything” and I didn’t wanna leave the house at the time and so all I had to do was look at him with the most distressed face, and everyone felt exactly what I was feeling it was absolutely unreal, and it was weird because every once in a while, there were vibe switches when people weren’t even talking and we would all feel it, if someone felt one thing, everyone felt it, and this is a far stretch for some of you to believe but my brother randomly said I know what you’re thinking right now and I said do you really? in my mind I was randomly thinking of Mike Tyson, and you’re not gonna believe what he said, he said you’re thinking about Mike Tyson, I don’t know about you guys, but that coincidence is something unheard of and quite physically unreal, all of our minds were blown because I literally repeated back Mike Tyson and everyone’s minds were blown but this trip was a A learning experience because I had an ego death, and many people don’t understand before taking shrooms that you must accept the feeling or else you will have the worst time of your life, it felt like I actually wanted to die because of the feeling I was having because I was not accepting the feeling, just a word of advice for people who haven’t done it. After that fast-forward eight months after the experience, I started experiencing these weird periods to where I was disassociating myself with my body, and I would look in the mirror and I would be scared of myself, and I still every once in a while getting nervous when I look at myself in the mirror, I don’t know how to explain it. I’ve been stuck with this weird feeling ever since I got done with it, if I’m just brushing my hair or brushing my teeth and just doing my normal day-to-day things, I don’t even notice it, but when I just look at myself in the mirror, I still get discomforted which is actually the craziest thing to say, I don’t know if this is a skins phrenic issue or what but my normal day-to-day basis has gone back to normal. The only thing that has stuck with me is the mirror thing which is quite odd and that’s gonna be the end of my trip. Be safe guys.
such a great resource! this kind of non-judgmental approach to understanding drugs and using them safely is such an important thing to have publicly available for everyone, and its information about harm reduction is literally life-saving. also, it's nice that they don't shy away from giving information about hard drugs, which are even more stigmatized and often aren't talked about beyond 'drugz r bad dont do it'.
If it weren't for sites like erowid the only information we the people would be able to access on the fly would be "It's important to consult a healthcare professional if you have any concerns..." -- a statement of medical advice that usually immediately follows something like "...not able to provide medical advice...", lol.

Erowid teaches me how to do the things I was doing before finding erowid safely. It helps everyone. Not having erowid is like not having any form of sex-ed just because you dont want people to have sex at all unless theyre going to have kids. Drugs are fun, sex is fun. Erowid is required reading for anyone interested in substances (legal and illegal) just as every person who wants to have sex should have sexual education.

This is one of the most useful resources for humanity. A repository of good information surrounding many stigmatized substances is such an important cause, one that Erowid has taken up for decades, brilliantly aggregating the data.
I've been an enthusiastic supporter and user of Erowid since the '90s. Erowid is one of the longest running libraries on the web, a living piece of internet history, and remains indispensable for anyone seeking reliable and authoritative information on the intersection of brains, bodies, spirits and the landscapes of chemistry and plant medicines. While others operating in the exploding space of research and enterprise around psychoactives have hogged the limelight and begun to industrialize the culture surrounding altered states, Erowid has remained lean, efficient, and focused on a critical and enduring mission.
When I was growing up in Brooklyn in the 90s and early naughties, Erowid helped me find what was true about mind-altering substances. Drug education left something to be desired, even in a well-funded private liberal-arts high school in Brooklyn. My parents didn't want to even talk about marijuana, except to say, it's bad for you, the black market is dangerous, don't do it.
So (perhaps as a form of rebellion) I took it upon myself to learn everything and anything I could about these substances, and someone told me about Erowid.org. A cross-referenced encyclopedia complete with pictures and graphs and legality and pharmacology. Always with the injunction on each page, Know Your Body, Know Your Substance. Be smart, be wise, measure twice, cut once. Erowid did more to prevent me from trying Heroin and Meth than anything in my "drug education" at school. I value information. According to the just-say-no culture of the 80s and 90s, Cannabis was just as bad as Heroin. When I eventually tried cannabis for the first time, I thought, "this is it?" I'm grateful to Erowid Center for having the information I needed to differentiate between what I wanted to put into my body and what I don't. I'm also grateful that Erowid center gave me the information to be the safe person in the room. So that if someone says, "I want to try _____," I can say, "sure, go ahead," or, "that might not be the safest move. Here's why."
An information desert about psychoactive substances is dangerous. It breeds more dangerous habits of drug use. It's the same with sex. Withholding information about sex doesn't prevent sex, it prevents the practice of safe sex. Withholding information about drugs doesn't prevent drug use, it prevents the practice of SAFE drug use.
Erowid deserves a Nobel prize.
Love Erowid, it has been an invaluable resource to me for more than fifteen years now and a great source of knowledge on so many entheogens and psychoactive substances for many of my friends and people around the world. The information found there is both accurate and exhaustive and experience reports are extremely interesting, fascinating and helpful. I have absolutely no doubt that the information to be found on Erowid has saved lives, as it's helped me to avoid many poor decisions in the past and has made me more knowledgeable overall about these substances and has in turn helped me make better decisions and advise people I know to make better decisions. In essence, Erowid is the perfect resource for responsible and safe substance use and harm reduction.
I have been visiting Erowid since the first time I wanted to try cannabis in 2005! From then on, I spent hours researching for my knowledge of plants and drugs that I wanted to try…and just for my entertainment reading the experience stories of others. It has been such a great resource, and has helped me to understand drugs and stay safe (and has averted me from trying some things which is great)
Erowid deep dives, for me, usually start with a basic question, for practical reference or just out of curiosity. They always lead somewhere unexpected, insightful, and educational. Also oftentimes, somewhere comforting, and entertaining, and occasionally, the path leads somewhere surprisingly vital to the safety of myself and people I love.
By occasionally, I don't mean rarely. "Occasional" is only relative to how often I use the site. I've used it far more times for curiosity's sake, than times I've urgently needed it, but have been just as grateful regardless. Those pieces of information, and those links, tend to someday come in handy when I least expect it, but am grateful that I either have the answer to a question, or at least know exactly where to help someone find it. I know with full certainty that among the large collective of people who direct others to Erowid, the number of lives, and psyches, saved, will never be quantifiable.
I lost a few friends in high school and the few years following. One of them in particular was an accidental OD. If there wasn't such a stigma in talking about it, maybe he'd have told me. And if he had told me, I could have mentioned Erowid and directed him to a few good articles I often referenced myself. Truthfully, back then I think I probably did more... First hand research, so to speak, than he did. The main difference being that I had this mass treasure trove of information to turn to each time, both out of interest/curiosity, and of awareness for my own safety. I don't think he knew it existed, especially in our small town, and ironically those towns are often the communities that need this information the most.
I try to share wherever I can, for the friends I still have, for the new ones to come, and for friends I'll never meet, but who have things in common with me nonetheless. I'm proud to be a friend out here, when I can be.

Had I never read the article on dpmp I might have went thru a three day stim session followed by hallucinations and psychosis. I had a colonoscopy on the 18th they sedate me using fentanyl. Apparently I had an adverse reaction well it said in my file. Btw I have nothing wrong with my bowels well serious anyway I just had bloating and like 6 months of on and off constipation so they check me out. I go home in like an hour or 2 I'm feeling sick I feel nauseous. Then I'm like home for like 30 minutes burping and feeling nauseous I finally vomit. Then that night I go to sleep...
So I just learnt what astral projection feels like. I mean they sedate me and then the night I astral project. I was always unsure that this stuff is possible but now that I know that it is. It's like the weirdest feeling to see your own body in other country. In my case it was Egypt it wasn't even like I was dreaming I was flying. That's insane stuff and super crazy. What did it the anaesthetic they gave me in the hospital was fentanyl the day before. My brain is like woah. I think it's changed me. It wasn't even scary either just like this lucid experience that I can't even begin to describe. I don't think it's like the worst thing in the world but my brain still feels a bit fried from it. I honestly hope that next time they chose another sedative because that one was way to strong and my brain is still processing what happened in my dream or whatever that experience was lol.
It's rather difficult to find accurate and non-biased information on drugs in the current culture we have on drugs, but Erowid is a website that provides that information for free, which helps prevent overdoses and bad trips, saving lives.

Erowid has been one of the greatest harm reduction and educating sites I have ever known. It’s gives in-detail what to expect dosages and experiences. To be honest I think this site has saved many lives in people getting educated on what they are using and not overdosing along with people who are curios in alternating their perception through chemicals. I'm unsure how writing here helps Erowid.
The interface for the main site could do with being modernised. A mobile app has been in the works for several years, and the site itself is not very mobile friendly.
Despite the number of visitors, I am unsure if many of these grasp the full scope of resources hosted by Erowid.org.
All I read here are stories about how useful Erowid.org is, but much of the focus appears to have been on the lab testing site of late.
I don't see anyone really saying where or how the sites might be improved, or where to focus effort.

Erowid is a wonderfully informative and educational tool that provides an irreplaceable service to the public. Whatever your stance is on drugs and drug use, there is no denying that access to accurate substance related information is a huge step in harm reduction as well as helping people make smart choices if they do choice to use.
There have been many many times where Erowid has helped me make better choices about what I put into my body. This is why I will continue to donate and submit trip reports - anything I can do to contribute, support and show my appreciation to the site and those that put so much hard work into what it is today!
Erowid is an absolutely crucial service. Though people may be torn on drug policy and the use of drugs as a whole, we cannot deny the benefit and harm reduction that an organization like Erowid offers. By offering not only scientific data but also anecdotal evidence, and the other way around too, the users of Erowid are able to access easily digestible information about a variety of psychoactive substances that they otherwise wouldn’t have. By offering dosage information for many substances, it allows users to not just go in blind, taking a wild guess at how much is enough (potentially leading to death!) but to have a proper idea of how much or how little they need. I’ve been using Erowid since I was a teenager and I can’t tell you how many times it’s saved my hide. In all honesty, I don’t know if I’d be alive now without Erowid’s help and information. Support this organization!

As a teen I read for hours and hours on Erowid before deciding cocaine isn't for me, but maybe mushrooms could be useful. Now in my 30s, have never touched coke, mdma, or heroin, and every year or three I treat my depression with a carefully dosed trip, instead of with daily mind-numbing pills.

I'm a veteran and my name is Aaron James glad. Dob 8/6/81. I'm currently at the va Milwaukee. I was involved in a botched drug deal in Milwaukee and outted a undercover officer who tried to also pass fake 20$ Bill's. I was then immediately followed by 20+ vehicles. I did research and found operation relentless pursuit in Milwaukee.im not sure if it's them but my phone immediately got hacked and my Google settings were changed. I started noticing I was feeling different and found out I was somehow magnetized. I was sartorially injecting acetylfentanyl and methamphetamine. I started getting strange feelings and found I was magnetic. As I was being followed, i went on facebook live 4x and things only got worse. I contacted local police and my probation officer to explain what was happening. I contacted the Gov. And was incarcerated. While incarcerated, I was continually harassed and found they were using nanoparticles to communicate with me. They claimed they were state patrol wi and dea/CIA. This is no joke. I'm still getting messed with and cannot file a whistleblower complaint because it's blocked on the zablocki va wifi. They were listening in on medical appointments and I've asked for medical help to no avail. I was hospitalized because my ankles swole to twice the size due to my change in polarity. I believe there were nanoparticles in the drugs. I believe this is the technology they are using. I'm also believing that they use your phone to track. I can feel them changing my mood etc. They even were able to put me into withdrawl by using nanoparticles to attack my sublocade shot. There might be something with the shot but I can feel when they do something. They were even able to harass me because the higher the polarity the easier they can read my mind. I'm scared for my life. I think I have a pseudo aneurism and was denied help. I can't file a whistleblower complaint but all you have to do is research nanoparticles. I'm in fear for my life and believe they are retaliating. This is not a joke. Please be careful because they might be tracking the drug supply. I've admitted my crimes and they still threaten to prosecute me for doing this. Please help if you can.

I started using the website when I was very young and very curious about that world, and it provided me with in-depth, personal accounts of the experiences I was curious about, and in some cases, longed for. Had I not discovered this resource, I believe that I could have really hurt myself, lacking guidance, contextual knowledge, and maybe some common sense. Erowid delivers information and personal accounts of human experience that effectively de-stigmatize the human relationship to substance, and frankly, in my experience, acts as far more of a deterrent than a catalyst for participating in those behaviors. I used do volunteering work for ex-heroin addicts with Hepatitis B. They have tried to go from methadone to suboxone. It's a tough journey and many of them relapsed or started using a different substance. As they did not speak English we had long sessions of me translating the stories to them. They always said that those meetings were eyeopeners to them.
It's true focus is harm reduction and education. It helps people make informed decisions about what they are choosing to do with their own body.

I've been this website for about 15 years now. While the site design has remained pretty much unchanged over the years, and has a terribly dated appearance by today's standards, the information it provides is accurate and up-to-date, and I'm not aware of a more reliable and complete source of information about psychoactive substances. It can be difficult to find unbiased information about psychoactive substances, and Erowid works to change that.

A vital service in an age when misinformation is still the de facto theatre in which drugs are discussed. People have and will always use banned substances, so true information is vital to using safely and responsibly. In my own experience as a younger man some of the described experiences of certain substances actually caused me to seek lower/purer doses, obviously this proved a great benefit to me in the long run. Helping me avoid unnecessary dangers.

One of the main reasons I managed to get over my fear of drug war. Was due to Erowid. Lost of awesome and useful information.
Whenever I can I share the resources form there, to educate people. Spend many hours discussing pros and cons, with different people who like psychedelics and who despise them.
In the end we agreed that open and truth based information is vital in making sure conversation moves with best that humanity can offer.
Why propagate fear when you can spread truth and heal yourself and other at the same time?

Back in my early days of experimenting, i had 3 main sources to verify info from: Shady websites with only unverified, non rigurously written trip reports, Terence Mckenna and Erowid. Well, as it turns out, Erowid truly surprised me every time being itself an enourmous vault and at the same time, a portal to other reputable sources and studies on a certain topic. And above it all which i haven't said (their work on harm reduction, the easiness that is to reach them and to send them samples and test them, their gigantic experiences vaults, etc) they won't ver charge you a cent! These are people working from the heart, aiding an ever-important cause as few others have; being freely and fully available. They do deserve an award, some recognition, and definitely, even if small, donations.
I started using many substances at a young age, and when I was 13 I found Erowid. I can't frankly picture what the next decade of my life would look like had I not been exposed at such an early age to the idea that if you're going to be using psychoactive substances, having as much accurate information about what you're using and how it interacts with the human body is the best possible way to stay alive and stay safe. Erowid is meeting a basic human right to information, health, and self-determination by providing access to that information. Throughout my using, people often deferred to me with questions about how drugs work and how they can stay safe, and everything I told them, I learned here. Ten years later I work at a harm reduction coalition, working to provided drug users with services based on those same values I discovered when I was 13. Incredible library of experiences used for harm reduction. This site has saved countless lives. We may never know how many people's lives has been saved by by website. It is an enormous benefit to society, and everyone should donate to them, they are nonprofit.
People have negative emotions about drug and chemical websites. Erowid should only be held up in high regard. What they do is incredibly important.
The truth is that people are going to experiment with drugs no matter what we do. So if users can get educated about the safety and dangers of chemicals in a real, non-propaganda method like erowid.org, then we can at least prevent hospitalizations and deaths.
The site also helps the addicted by sharing real experiences with dealing with addiction to the same drug that the user is addicted to. Methods of tapering and quitting safely are shared.
Bottom line is, Erowid.org is not some druggie-hang out spot. Erowid.org saves lives.

Most useful website for research and information about any kind of mind altering substances and medications.
Erowid quite literally saved my life. I was able to make informed, educated, healthier, and unbiased decisions about my involvement with psycho-active substances. As someone with a degree in biochemistry I may understand and comprehend a little more about the mechanism of action a specific substance entails, but as far as knowing where to look specifically for this type of information I was left with bland, textbook-style information that scholarly works provide...most of which are very anti-drug. Google and Wikipedia can only offer the layperson so much as well. It wasn't until the advent of erowid that I began to really learn about ALL the aspects of substances...how and why they work, what to expect from them, experience reports detailing what to do and what not to do with them, information on addiction; the obsession and compulsion; habituation and withdrawal, as well as how to AVOID addiction and dependence in the first place. With Erowid I have a vast amount of information regarding interactions, drug-to-drug interactions, drug and pharmaceutical interactions, drug and herbal interactions... it was this area that saved my life. I was able to avoid a possibly life-threatening situation by reading about a medication I was prescribed and a research chemical I was about to do. I could find no information on it anywhere but Erowid. With Erowid you can get unbiased objective information about The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly side of psychoactive substances with no filler and no BS. With Erowid there is an endless amount of information that people from all educational backgrounds and all walks of life can enjoy and benefit from. There is no other site that offers as much harm reduction information.

This website has one of the best, if not best, information on every drug and herbal supplement alike. It's full of personal accounts from users to help present a more accurate story. I have to say it has saved me from some "drug mishaps" in the past. Plus, the stories are interesting.
As a 33 year old recreational drug user since my early teens (grew up around addiction and drugs). Erowie.org has been my #1 and only trusted source for any and all information you could possibly imagine if you were ; considering trying a substance, seeking information about a substance that someone close is addicted to/recreationally uses, laws, experiences, and scientific laws/chemical makeups. I have not been able to support Erowid.org financially as much as I would have liked, but I refer everyone with any question or curiousity about a substance (household products included) to increase traffic. I refer others knowing that they will receive the best trustworthy database of drug/spirituality known to man. No forum can touch the accuracy of this information. Erowid.org should be a world-wide recognized source of information with academically backed sponsors as the information should also include (if not already) case-studies done by too universities. Objectively speaking, Erowid is an incredible resource for information about psychoactive substances. It’s objective when taken as a whole, non biased, and readily available for individuals curious about psychoactive experiences. When most other available resources are biased one way or another, Erowid can be relied upon to provide accurate information. It’s a rarity, and thus it’s value is that much more apparent.
Erowid has been an invaluable resource for over a decade. So many sites have missing or biased information about psychoactive substances. Or they have good intentions but the information is only user generated, or difficult to find.
Erowid provides people with authoritative links to information about each listed substance. There reference section is the best, Wikipedia does not even have as complete of a knowledge base.
What really sets Erowid apart is the experience report section. This content is made by drug users and for drug users, making it more likely to contain the part of the stories that adds value.
We are at risk of losing access to much of the harm reduction and drug information on the internet here in the usa. Google has been going through a process of delisting such information from search results.
This misguided effort puts us all at risk. Luckily there is Erowid, which is a known and trusted household name. So when Google only lists rehabs and no answers, we know where to turn.

The main reason I love Erowid (besides the obvious ones like keeping teenagers from overdosing on cough medicine) is that it is one of the few internet places that provides honest, unbiased, and clear information regarding psychoactive drugs and their usage. This is ESPECIALLY impressive in the world of drugs, where misinformation learned from peers or family members reigns supreme for most people, and most internet sites simply say "just don't do them lol."

Like others have stated, I feel very fortunate that I discovered Erowid.org at such an early juncture in my life. Several times over the years, the knowledge gleaned from it's annals has saved myself and others around me from taking potentially dangerous amounts of a substance, or even in some cases from being duped into buying/ingesting little-known research chems. The experience vaults are an absolute gold-mine of information, prose, philosophy, and general literary expression of all kinds of chemically-induced states of being. Informative, and some even downright entertaining, chilling, or heartbreaking.

This website is a great place for medical professionals to gain insight on new novel compounds. In a world that hates our most fundamental inalienable right of all- complete dominion over one's own body- Erowid is one of the few lights in the darkness. User reports about anecdotal drug experiences must always be taken with a grain of salt, but for drugs on which research has been blocked (generally euphoriants that have great potential to help mankind even if each carries unique dangers, just as getting into an automobile or choosing to play a sport carries risks, just as everything in life born to die as we are) this is what we have.

Despite that Erowid is not getting enough credit now I believe that in the future when world going to speak about humanity relationship with drugs/plants/chemicals more freely and acknowledge necessity not to make wars because of them,not consider drugs as roots of evil, but study their hidden enormous potential, Erowid will be as important as Wiki.
Erowid is the most comprehensive place to learn about drugs both from first-hand reports as well as third-party sources. My favorite thing about it is the fact that they never changed the interface, which has been well-conceived from the start - it doesn't try to dumb things down for you, but it's still easy enough to use and the information density (sorely lacking in more "modern", web 2.0/3.0/etc sites) is very high.

I found Erowid roughly 15 years ago while in high school. At the time myself and many of my peers were becoming interested in mind altering substances. Generally, when it comes to drugs, it is hard to get accurate information. Since the government criminalizes certain drugs, it might be hard to get accurate information on, let's say, heroin. On the flip side, some people who don't have the agenda of "don't do this" might give inaccurate information, either because they are trying to sell you heroin or because they just don't know. Erowid isn't perfect, nobody is, but they bring accurate information in an easily accessible way and work within a drug legalization, harm reduction point of view that views drugs as chemical substances rather than as the devil incarnate or as the greatest thing ever. Erowid is no doubt the best vault of information regarding substance use. Its info is trusted and it has helped me out many times, and has helped out countless people since 1995.
Where can I start? As a young college student I became curious, as many do, with the subject of drugs. Although I personally do not believe in the criminalization of psychoactive drugs, unlike some drug advocates I will not say they are not dangerous. All drugs have the potential to be very harmful when used irresponsibly. However, Erowid is a shining example of the power of information. Simply put, the website provides users with a huge library of knowledge including both scientific research, personal experiences, dosage guidelines, and countless other information. Because of this, when I started to experiment with drugs during my youth, I was able to avoid several costly mistakes. Although I no longer use drugs the way I once did, I can attest this website saved me on multiple occasions and that without it I might have done something stupid enough I wouldn't have survived it.

When most governments around the world see that teaching abstinence as the only acceptable form of drug education, you need a website like erowid to pop up on google when you are searching for information on a drug.
Any other site such as webmd, would simply say to you that drugs are bad, and you shouldn't do them. This doesn't stop kids from guzzling cough syrup and anti-histamines for a cheap high, all this does is keep them unaware of dangerous dosage levels and other information that can reduce the risk of harm.

My friends and I have been using erowid since we were in 8th or 9th grade to find great and accurate information on drugs that we were curious About trying so that we wouldn't make the mistake about getting into a dangerous situation with taking some drug. I think it is a amazing website that everyone should know about
Erowid provides me and many other people with real information about psychoactive drugs, substances, plants, etc. (which humans have been experimenting with for thousands of years--just saying). Without websites like erowid, people could die or cause unnecessary damage to themselves and others because of lack of knowlege about what you're doing or how to properly do it, and not overdo it, etc. Usually, any other drug education is false, propaganda, or just lies to scare people from doing it, such as all the marijuana myths. That is why we need websites like erowid, so that people can practice safe and responsible drug use.

At first as a medical practicioner, and eventually I began to read Erowid. For reasons ranging from curisity to morbid curiosity. God bless the country where experiences can be shared without the war on drugs slogans drowning out logical thought. While some of it is disturbing, it can hardly be less disturbing for juveniles conficted as felons for life for having a plant in their pocket or a synthetic version in the mailbox. The "War on Drugs" ends with mutual understanding. I do not believe in internet censorship, Don't incite abuse, share your experiences, for better or worse knowledge is POWER. The diagrams for the impact strength of a substance over time is incredibly valuable to me. So this is a great resource. Simply fantastic. Erowid lets you learn about the subjective experiences of substances, which gives you a point of reference for your own experience. Are you freaked out? Look it up on Erowid, find out you're not alone and this too shall pass, and then you feel better. It also provides unbiased reviews by individuals which will tell you: don't try this drug, it's awful and decreases your quality of life. Or about another substance which is awesome and enlightening, should you decide to try it. Real people tell you: don't do meth, but LSD can be really fun. Instead of the normal societal "drugs are bad!", Unless they come from a licensed professional and make you have weird dreams and thoughts of suicide :) those are okay drugs. It's a great resource for learning about drugs as an experience and helping in harm reduction through education, like drink water!! Especially using rave drugs in a place packed with people that's 100°. Simple peices of information like that which can reduce the uncomfortableness of an experience and make it a learning experience for yourself, rather than a regretful memory. So, five stars, for keeping me rooted during a transitional period and teaching me that psychedelics are like vacations, not like going to sleep. Only once in a while.

The plethora of information on psychoactives and their combinations, many of which are unknown in the "main-stream" drug culture, are explored in depth. The plethora of information provided is only further reinforced by the peer volunteer edited and submitted experience reports. The site does wonders in offering a non-biased, scientific as well as personal, catalog that I'd say more than adequately provides readers with accessible knowledge which can only result in a better understanding of the psychoactives which in turn helps spur harm reduction.

Unbiased website. Its database on experiences with psychoactives covers very bad experiences as well as heavenly experiences of people with psychoactives. And it covers a lot of psychoactives, a range of plants, fungi, artifiicaly substances and animals. Just reading the experiences is a delight in itself. I have come across some beautiful prose. Reading from other people's experiences can also gain you new insights. Most of all the website encourages responsible use of psychoactives. It can be a medicine, but if used incorrectly it can be damaging. More awareness of the potentials of psycoactive should be spread. And not all should be labeled as 'drugs' or be demonized. And yes, it actually covers more than psychedelic substances, also sedatives and uppers and what more. Go check for yourself! :)

This site has taught me and many of my peers how to safely administer a variety of chemicals, plants, and drugs. For each page there is usually many third-party scientific studies that can confirm the information posted on the site. This site does NOT encourage drug use. Rather, it promotes harm reduction. I personally believe it has saved my life by having a place to start with harder drugs other than word of mouth (DXM, Oxycontin, and to a lesser degree psychedelics.) I have been using and reading on this site for years. It's a great way to get new information and it's easily categorized with interesting articles. I'm glad you guys didn't go under.
I live in the UK and our government, despite all the evidence to the contrary,still believes prihibition saves lives, despite anyone with a brain - and common sense - knowing otherwise. Recently, there has been a spate of kids dying after dropping a single E. Now, I've no idea whether it was the tab itself that killed them (if so, what the फ़क was in it, because it certainly can't have been (just) MDMA - what would be so toxic that a single pill would cause death…?). My money's on the fact that because it's illegal, they had no access to information on how to take it safely, and what to be aware of regarding adverse reactions and side-effects (which, with MDMA, include extreme thirst and, obviously therefore, frequent urination caused by an imbalance of potassium and sodium. Y'see, if it was legal, clubs could have proper, medical-grade, rehydration fluid behind the bar, so that calling an ambulance wasn't necessary).
Y'see, it's actually illegal to publish information on recreational substances, because the government believes that it will encourage their use, this is to ignore the obvious that people will use 'em anyway, so why not make the info freely available…? Oh there are sites, but you have to know about them, they can't advertise their existence).
I apologise for the length of this, but this is a topic that makes me apoplectic, especially as our former PM, on introducing the воІІох that was the Psychoactive Substances Bill (now the PSA), had the audacity to claim that parents were demanding tougher legislation, which is utter BS - parents want legalisation and regulation, so they know their kids have access to the info that will allow them to take these substances SAFELY.
I want as many people as possible to know about EROWID, because the information it contains, and the experience reports, should be easily accessible - ideally there should be a localised version in every country where its info would be useful. Until this happens, parents are going to continue to grieve. What REALLY needs to be prohibited is stupidity, especially when combined with government. Through simple google searches to research the potential experiences I was hoping to try, Erowid repeatedly came up at a top result. I was amazed at how thorough and objective their site was laid out. Informative and I love how the personal experience section is laid out.
The admins moderate and give fair disclaimers on the personal experiences that people submit only to warn of potentially very irresponsible actions to not follow, but typically do not censor them to allow the original submitter to give their best recollection of their experience.
The structure and layout of the site between the proper dosing, typical times of affect, general pro, neutral and con effects of the drugs, etc are very accurate to my experience and just extremely informal.
I have not found any other convenient source that has this much vast information for those that want to educate themselves in potential experimentation in what is in the website.
Of course the information on that site is not going to be 100% consistent with every user, but just use common sense and do as much research as possible before diving into whatever experience you intend to go after.
I wished every recreational user knew of and used Erowid before taking the plunge into whatever it was they were experimenting with.

This site may well have saved my life - and I'm certainly not alone in that. Having accurate, timely and non-judgmental information available to consumers of psychoactives is an often undervalued and dismissed public good. It is a public good nevertheless, and one of the highest order. With better information at hand, tens of thousands of overdose deaths could be prevented annually, as could any number of deaths that result from the consumption of contaminated or mislabeled substances.
