Wilson County, Habitat for Humanity of
Homeless & Housing
PO Box 1248
Habitat for Humanity of Wilson County, founded in 1993, seeks to eliminate substandard housing in Wilson County, TN. Habitat is a hand-up, not a hand-out. We partner with very low-income working families in need of decent housing that they can afford on their own terms. the families contribute 500 hours of "sweat equity" by helping to build not only their own house, but the houses of others in the program as well. The houses are sold at no profit and no interest through 20 year mortgages. Homeowners pay taxes and insurance like any other conventional homeowner, and take great pride in their homes, having participated in the building process. Habitat brings together volunteers and resources from the community to help build these houses. Mortgage payments perpetuate the program because they are "recycled" to build more houses.
