I have heard many stories of how VISTO has helped the members of the community and of the great projects that they do. I would gladly recommend them to anyone that needed help. Keep up the great work!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

a person that works for this non profit and how it can change a person's view.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make sure they have the funds to help more and pay their staff the wages that they deserve. Non profit is harder then most think and donations and grants are needed! GIVE

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The service they provide to the community

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Friendly, helpful, and understanding.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Help even more people in the community, provide some training to the community, and keep more from going hungry

Ways to make it better...

No change would be expected

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funds and donations and volunteers

One thing I'd also say is that...

The staff at VISTO work hard and deserve more than what they are paid. Keep up the great work!

I have been in volenved with VISTO since 2005 I have observed our Director filliong many different hats and alwys putting the clients first in her helping hands and in her prayers. Our community is very lucky to have such devoted and caring people that really go the last mile to get help where and when help is needed. I really enjoy the few hours a week I get to help VISTO with what ever they need me to do.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

reach out to every one in Cooke county that have fallen on severe times and maybe not have to really worry about having enough food for them. They could also help more with education for better managing of the clients help they receive

I have been involved with VISTO since June and have found the organization totally devoted to helping feed the community and do what they can to help families and individuals in ways they can. I have helped them towards their goals; "No one left behind". I will stay with them as long as I can and whenever I can. I've asked and encouraged others to help any way they can. Please doe whatever you can to help this organization.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I've seen what it means to the people they serve.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

I interface with all of the staff and see their full involvement with the individuals they help. It is intense and sincere.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

They could help more people and provide more variety for the entire community. They could have a more permanent structure to house what's needed to offer assistance.

VISTO fulfills their mission statement and has an excellent staff. The executive director of this organization will go the extra mile to provide assistance to anyone in need meeting their criteria. These are civic minded leaders who network across our county with other non-profits and organizations. They are professional and compassionate people who give freely above and beyond the call of duty and ministry. They make the most of their budget and fundraising efforts to pass the benefit onto their clients. They work hard to meet the challenge of crisis situations and a difficult economy. This staff looks at the whole situation in a client's life and will do their best to refer to other organizations and share resources or make connections to improve services other charities provide. Cooke County is very fortunate to blessed with VISTO and it is an exceptional organization in which to volunteer and know that you have spent your time most productively to make a difference in the lives of others. They have a wonderful education program as well.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

dealing with them on a community-wide level.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

support fundraising efforts to give them more resources to distribute.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

their compassionate concern for their clients and the needs of the community at large.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

people who care and will go the extra mile to get their job done.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

provide all the nutritious snacks needed for hungry school children in the backpack buddy program and provide more things children need for school. They could increase their warehouse space and stock food items more adequately and increase needed staff.

Ways to make it better...

I had more time to give.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the economic climate in our country creates a growing need for more resources.

One thing I'd also say is that...

These folk alleviate hunger and suffering. VISTO creates hope in the hopeless and gives struggling folks opportunities to get back on their feet and thrive in life. They are a blessing to our community.

I have volunteered for VISTO for several years by donating food or coordinating food drives.I have known of several students that have received help. They have all been very complimentary of VISTO and the employees. What a great service VISTO provides our community!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

working with great people and helping them to help others less fortunate. The staff works to help people become more self sufficient by giving them the knowledge and tools to do so. They provide help in the way people need to be helped.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

extremely professional and compassionate.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Wow, it could take care of our town, several others and most important; share the knowledge of helping others on a shoestring budget, which they have done forever!

It is so amazing to see VISTO in action. I help deliver backpacks filled with food for needy children in this area. Without this program some of these children will not have food for meals on the weekends. To see their faces shine when they receive the backpack is so amazing! Thanks VISTO for all you do!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

how easy it is to coordinate for our group to volunteer. They are ready to accommodate any needs we have.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

AMAZING! They are friendly, courteous and willing to go out of their way to make it easy for us to help.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

extend their backpack program to cover more area in the county and assure it would not ever have to be stopped!

Abigail's Arms - Cooke County Family Crisis Center is the local non-profit victims assistance center for Cooke County. We currently do not have a emergency shelter for victims in our county. On many occasions we have clients who are in need of food and emergency shelter. We know that if we call VISTO that they are ready and willing assist our clients with their needs. VISTO has given countless victims in Cooke County food and other assistance. They have also provided emergency motel shelter for victims on many occasions throughout the year. Recently our agencies partnered to begin the Pathways Project, designed to break the cycle of poverty and abuse. We appreciate VISTO's willingness to attack the problems from the root, not just the crisis.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Compassionate and Caring

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Have many more resources to eliminate hunger and homelessness in Cooke County.

I am gifted with the opportunity to serve on the VISTO board, which is one of my favorite highlights of ministering in Cooke County. VISTO is clearly the most influential mission center for our city and outlying areas. As a Christian minister, I consider VISTO a strong ally in the ministry and mission of the ecumenical church in Gainesville, and gladly put my trust in VISTO when we refer folks in need to them, and when we send resources. VISTO is effective and efficient at fulfilling its mission, and deserves all the support it can get in order to keep up with the needs of our community. Volunteers, food donations, financial gifts, prayers…that’s the fuel VISTO needs to better serve “the least of these among us.”

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing families (particularly single mothers) find emergency care, which give them hope to face another day.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

continue to focus on teaching life skills and preparing the clients for the life ahead of them.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

witnessing the compassion the staff and board has for the hungry. It's fun to serve on such a healthy board, leading such an impactful ministry.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

helpful and fast acting, and also kind and talented at listening.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

do more than charity work. It could engage more in justice making through new programs, like Pathways. The majority of the resources are used for emergency care, and with more finanical support we can equip the leaders of these families with life skills.

Ways to make it better...

nothing

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

keeping up with demand, and helping families break the cycle of poverty.

One thing I'd also say is that...

we are blessed by the leadership and compassion of our director.

Visto plays a very important role in our community and is always looking for ways to help even more. Our director steps outside the box and looks in, she is very efficient in seeing new needs and pulling it together. Visto not only serves family food to cook, they also help in emergency cases with utilities or rent, they have the BackPack Buddy Program for school children who would be without food on the weekend. The Visto program has partnered with Abigail's Arms, local domestic violence program and started a program, Pathways. Volunteers take course work and work with individual families for 5 months, to help them with self enpowerment, self improvement. This will help stablize a family as a nucleus and not be dysfunctional as they will learn new tools to help them achieve this goal. There are so many ways to volunteer for visto, there is a spot for any individual and as the Director has shown over the last several yeaars, there are many more to come. Visto is not just a name in Gainsville, Texas, it is Life and service to others and this community is very blessed as times have become harder and Visto has become stronger.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

helping deliver food to them and train to help others learn different skills to cope or change to improve their life and their family. I look forward to next challenge we all face as a nation, as our Director see's it and takes action.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

helping others in need is a blessing to me. To know that if I was in need, someone would be there and be willing to put their own time and effort for a person in need before themselves.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Always very, kind, courteous and giving from the heart, not just a job, but honestly caring.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

oh my, on the little budget they have and what they have managed to do already, the sky is the limit! There are so many that are in need of other things, such as dental or speech therapy, vaccinations, etc., I see this organization pulling it together.
