Reviews for Virginians Against Handgun Violence Education Fund Inc

Role: General Member of the Public
Rating: 1 stars

While me and my family were walking out of the General Assembly building a lady from this group slandered my families name and some unknown members of the group vandalised the sidewalk. I would expect more from a grown adult and a member of this group. We had done nothing wrong but walked out of the GA building minding our own bussiness. I hope there are reasonable people in this group that see this and fix that problem.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Keep my people from doing inappropriate things.

This organization is now known as the Virginia Center for Public Safety. They (VACPS) work to educate Virginians on the dangers of guns in the hands of felons, mental incompetents, drug and alcohol abusers, and other ineligible users. VACPS works with youth and community groups to understand the danger and responsibility of bringing guns into the home and community. They work in collaboration with police, educators, the medical community and faith leaders to protect public safety and the polcies that promote gun safety.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Educating youth mentors to seek solutions without resorting to violence. The next generation understands that guns are not problem solvers.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Develop and fund a marketing plan to educate the public on the danger of easy access to firearms.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Educating parents on the increased dangers if they choose to keep a gun in the home.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Dedicated to reducing gun violence. Unfortunately many of those involved have suffered a personal tragedy.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Develop a public relations and marketing program to let others know how to be safer and responsible with guns in our community. In light of the Supreme Court Heller decision, this issue is clouded with misconceptions.

Ways to make it better...

there were funds to hire Education specialists.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

1. Many of those affected by gun violence are fragile and unable to speak out. 2.The resources avaialable are very limited. 3.There are many misconceptions about the public safety goals of the movement.

One thing I'd also say is that...

It is difficult to educate most commonsense Americans without funding and when the gun lobby is so well financed, focused and intense.
