The parents of the Tuckahoe Youth Football Association went to court, and took back the association from the people who have run the organization into the ground. Effective January 1, 2010, an entirely new group of actual parents (finally all board members actually have children in the association) have taken over the organization. They have a brand new web site, and the board members consist of professional people who will work hard to improve the organiation. Come join the NEW TYFA today!!!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The new board members are great!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The fact that the parents stood up to a bunch of bullies and took back the organization.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The new volunteers are absolutely great!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Help a lot of children.

Ways to make it better...

The new board had taken over a long time ago.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The former board members.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The new board members actually have children participating in the organization, unlike most of the former board members.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About once a year

This organization has violated numerous County, State and Federal laws for years. They failed to submit 990EZ tax returns to the IRS for the years 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. Formal complaints have been filed with the IRS as gross receipts were over $105,000 in 2007 and over $75,000 in 2008. The organizaton lost their 501-C-3 status several years for failing to file tax returns and provide updated information to the IRS. Newly elected Treasurer Ron Pesetti was able to get the 501-C-3 status restored in 2009 by agreeing to provide the IRS with ammended tax returns for 2005, 2006 and 2007. Ron Pesetti also identified numerous violations of law involving this association which included a failure to obtain a Sales & Use Tax Exemption in Virginia, continuing to collect fundraising and mandatory charitable contributions after losing their 501-C-3 status, failing to be registered as a C Corporation in Virginia during 2008, failing to ever obtain a business license in Henrico County, failure to register the business with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and obtain the proper registration needed to collect fundraising monies, failing to provide financial disclosure to it's members and the general public, and refusing to provide disclosure of form 1023 to it's members and the general public. Ron Pesetti also identifed numerous violations of the bylaws to include holding onto large amounts of cash for up to months at a time without making a deposit and failing to have the financial books audited. In order to prevent newly elected Treasurer Ron Pesetti from gaining access to the past financial records of the organization, the board members changed the bylaws which prevented Ron from getting access to the past financial records of the organization in his role as Treasurer. This was done in violation of the Virginia Code. After Ron Pesetti identified numerous violations of laws and began notifying County, State and Federal officals of the violations, the Tuckahoe Board Members immediately voted to remove him from the board. The only two board members elected by the children and parents for 2009 (Ron Pesetti/Treasurer and Mike Ayers/President) were removed from the board by the remaining Tuckahoe board members.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The board members of this organization have refused to provide financial disclosure to it's members and the general public.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Remove the entire board immediately and allow the parents and children to elect a new board.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I have enjoyed watching a group of parents and coaches fighting back against a rougue group of board members, many of which do not live in the local area or have children participating in the organization.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Although the board members of this organization have routinely violated numerous laws (A former President was convicted of Embezzlement and Forgery), there were many great parent volunteers and coaches. Unfortunately, most have now left the organization.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

mean that either a bank was robbed or somebody hit the lottery because the organization has been run into the ground financially.

Ways to make it better...

The Tuckahoe Youth Football Association board members had followed existing county, state and federal laws.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Unethical and illegal behavior on the part of board members.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The children and parents fought back in Nov 2008 when they elected Mike Ayers as President and Ron Pesetti as Treasurer - as both promised to clean up the organization. Both were removed from the board by other board members

The Tuckahoe Youth Football Association board is completely incompetent in my opinion. In addition to violating nearly all local, state and federal laws, the board members have been violating multiple Virginia fundraising laws for years by not being registering with the Department of Agriculture for fundraising activities and allowing profits to be generated from the actual fundraisers themselves and distributed amongst it's members. The President of the Tuckahoe organization actually told a parent last year in writing that they were not required to file an annual 990EZ tax return with the IRS! The fact that the President does not know even the basic laws for a 501-C-3 entity says it all! The first board member who actually tried to do it right was Ron Pesetti the Treasurer elected by the Children and parents for 2009. As soon as he began notifiying local, state and federal officials of illegal activity at the association, he was voted off the board by the other board members!!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

a detailed CPA audit/financial report conducted by the Snellings & Snellings firm. A complete lack of any financial controls, and excuses for illegal behavior are the norm for this organization. They broke lots of laws and have lots of excuses.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

turn over all past financial reports and association records to law enforcement officials immediately before removing each and every one of the current board members.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

knowing that a group of parents and coaches have turned over all of the information regarding violations of law to Henrico County law enforcement officials, State of Virginia officials and the Internal Revenue Service.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

quite varied. In the past, you had a group of great parents and children who deserved so much more than what they received from an incompetent group of board members.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

be a sign of further violations of laws or illegal fundraising activities.

Ways to make it better...

the board had taken disciplinary action against a board member who assaulted the mother of a youth football player during a parents meeting in front of 30 to 40 parents, MYFL board members and a Henrico County government official.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

a small core group of board members who have known each other for over 15 years and who are not qualified to run a lemonaide stand in my opinion and the opinion of many others.

One thing I'd also say is that...

The group of bullies on the board should resign from the association and put the children's interest ahead of their own. Many board members have no children in the association and do not live locally. To me, that is the biggest red flag of them all!
