The Parent-Child Home Program, Inc. Overview
Programs: The Parent-Child Home Program is an intensive home visiting program that works with low-income families with very young children, from 16 months to four years, and focuses on helping parents prepare their children for school readiness and success. Using a research-based, research validated model, the home visitor makes twice weekly visits to each family, bringing books, often the first in the home, and educational toys as gifts for the family. The Home Visitor models for the parent the kind of reading, conversation, and play activities that strengthen language, literacy, and cognitive skills in young children. 45 years of experience has demonstrated that program children then enter kindergarten as prepared as their more advantaged peers, and that they graduate from high school at the same rate as middle class children. Program services are delivered across the country, and internationally, by a network of trained and supervised local sponsoring agencies, including social service agencies, school districts, charter schools, universites, public libraries, and health related facilities.
