Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Religion, Religion-Related

Mission: Our purpose is to provide adults and families with an effective and comprehensive faith-based solution to life-controlling drug and alcohol problems in order for them to become productive members of society. By applying biblical principles, teen challenge endeavors to help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well and spiritually alive.

Programs: Teen challenge is the faith-based solution for the drug epidemic. The scope of teen challenge has grown over the years, and now serves adults as well as teenagers. There are almost 200 teen challenge campuses in the united states, and over 1,000 centers world wide in over 80 countries, which provide christian recovery services to individuals of every age and social background. Typically, these services are long-term residential recovery centers which provide a life-encompassing environment through which the participant is able to change their lifestyle and develop a plan for a future free from addiction. Another core tenet of teen challenge is drug abuse prevention, which educates young adults on the dangers and reality of drug abuse in our society. Teen challenge admitted 344 men and women in 2012 and graduated 83 from its 12 month residential program.

I served nearly 3 years in the Corporate office. I can assure you that under the leadership of Dr. George Thomas this organization focuses on 1) the best interests of the students, 2) the well-being of the staff who care for them, and 3) responsible stewardship of every donation received. The men and women who enter this program are given every opportunity to mature spiritually, emotionally, and socially so that they can graduate and go forward to lead successful lives that honor the Lord and bless their families and communities.

I have served on the Teen Challenge of Texas Board for 15 years, 14 of those as Chairman of the Board. I have watched as hundreds of men and women have entered this 1 year residential program. The results are indisputable because of changed lives. By that I mean set free from addiction; Family restoration; Healthy parents; Emotional restoration and health; Spiritually strong; Assets to their communities upon return; many stay and become staff and interns. The success rate is second to nothing else. What a joy to be a part of seeing trapped people set free. Our present leadership team is strong and committed. A visit to the campus will confirm the above very demonstratively. The T C students and staff are some of my most favorite people on earth.

This is a great organization with a desire to help people with life controlling issues. They have great success stories at all of their facilities and have funneled people back into their communities as useful members of society. The program really works because of the 'Jesus,' factor.
