The alliance successfully addresses three objectives. 1. To meet the physical, social and emotional needs of each child in an enjoyable and meaningful manner. It strives to enhance life skills, widen the social horizon, and provide holiday awareness amongst the special needs community. 2. It seeks to raise consciousness, inclusiveness, and a sense of responsibility amongst young adults by encouraging and promoting big brother/sister volunteerism. 3. It offers the family a weekly respite, community support, and a host of social/holiday events.

I have been coming to Friendship Circle events since I was a freshman, mostly to things like holiday parties and the like. It wasn’t until my junior year that I began the “Friends at Home” program. That year, I began to devote an hour and a half on most Sundays to go see my friend Josh. Coming over on Sundays was amazing for me. I got to put down my homework and leave the house to play video games and board games. It was really fun playing Wii Sports and I got to learn how to play new board games such as Blockus and Banagrams. When it was warm out, we would play Frisbee or jump on the neighbors’ trampoline. I love coming to see Josh every week, and I’m always in a great mood when I leave his house. The “Friends at Home” program was certainly my favorite part of Friendship Circle, and I am so happy that I was able to take part in it the last two years.

I volunteer at the Friendship Circle and I have so much fun with it. It doesn't only benefit the families with special needs, it also benefits the volunteers. I have learned so much from the hours I have given and have grown in a spiritual way as well.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

how it teaches me to appreciate what i have and appreciate others for who they really are.
