I donate through a payroll deduction to St. Joseph's Family Center via United Way. I chose St. Joseph's because they provide food, employment services, homeless outreach, and emergency rental assitance to the neediest people in the Gilroy community. I trust that the leadership of this organization will use funds wisely. We are all potential beneficiaries of the services provided at St. Joseph's since most of us are a couple of paychecks away from needing the services they provide.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've seen people receive bags of food, hot dinners, rental assistance, and know that some of the hardest people to place in jobs have received resume writing assistance and employment opportunities.

In my interaction with St. Joseph’s Family Center, I have observed a keen sense of concern by their administrator for the well being of the staff members. Responsiveness and respectfulness haven been practiced in each endeavor relating to employee benefit issues. I mention this because this type of awareness resonates through the culture of an organization and carries outward, into their community. Heidi C. Jensen, Account Manager CAN Insurance Services

This is an outstanding organization that does so much for so many with so little. As a donor, volunteer and board member, I witness often the efforts of a small staff of 7 serve more than 8% of Gilroy's population with grace, integrity, compassion and respect.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the way they help homeless people find housing.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

would be hard pressed to do as well as David Cox.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

what I learn from the people they serve is life-changing.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

angels walking the earth.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

buy the two motels just north and turn them into permanent supportive housing, and build a service center to meet the growing need.

Ways to make it better...

it can't be better...they work hard to make sure everyone, client and volunteer, has a good experience in achieving the aims of the organization.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

finding landlords who are willing to work with them to accept subsidies St. Joseph's has worked hard to obtain in order to permanently house homeless people. They could move 10 people off Gilroy street rights now if they had studios and one bedroom apartments available.

One thing I'd also say is that...

members of the community who complain about homeless people hanging around the church and school spread stories and fear that are unfounded. I invite them to come and spend time volunteering and seeing first hand how much homeless people do not pose a threat to the nearby parish and school.

Outstanding center that serves all South County residents. Provider of food, shelter, employment training, low-income housing, linkage, hot meals with the best soup kitchen in the entire Bay Area! The Director of this center is lightning speed efficient and gracious; by far one of the best and brightest contributions to the fabric of our society. God bless St Joseph's Family Center!

St. Joseph's Family Center is a true asset to the South Valley community. They reach out to the homeless, the hungry, the unemployed, senior citizens, etc. I have attended fundraisers, donated and volunteered. It is refreshing to see people in the community who take time from their day to volunteer and help just because they want to. People support the organization because of their generosity, but also because of the leadership of St. Joseph's. When I donate I am confident the money will be well spent.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Hungry and Homeless being fed.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I've enjoyed working with the people that run the organization.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

organized, efficient and positive thinkers.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Build a facility with it's own kitchen and diningroom and feed more people.

St. Joseph’s Family Center is a jewel in our community. Not only does the agency provide the most basic and critical services that people need for day-to-day survival, they promote the future self-sufficiency of those who are most in need of stability and security. Their services are punctuated by a deep respect and caring for the individuals and families they serve. St. Joseph’s Family Center willingly and openly responds to request for assistance that our agency, and many others, makes on behalf of our clients.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the investment they make in their clients' futures, while tending to their day-to-day needs.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

dedicated, enthusiastic, caring, and responsive.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand their services and facilities, fully fund their operations, and concentrate all their energies on clients rather than the on-going challenge of securing consistent funding sources.

St. Joseph's serves our community by meeting the needs as they come up...whether it is feeding the hungry, finding shelter for the homeless, or assisting in legal matters, SJFC never ceases to fill the gap. The agency is ready to partner with other organizations to come up with a solution, as well as develope their own programs to assist our residents.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

watching families leaving St. Joseph's food pantry with smiles on their faces!

St. Joseph's has been part of the community of Gilroy CA for almost 30 years. It is the sole provider of comprehensive services for the homeless and those in urgent need in Gilroy and San Martin. What sets St. Joseph's apart is its compassionate and far-reaching services - providing basics such as food and hot meals, but also finding ways for people to reach self-sufficiency with employment assistance. It is well-run by a diverse, energetic staff, and actively collaborates with other nonprofit organizations, businesses and churches to meet the needs of individuals and families with few financial resources and multiple challenges.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the daily lives of individuals and families facing hunger, homelessness, eviction, sudden financial crisis, and job loss. The hungry can have hot meals; the homeless can get help with shelter; the unemployed and underemployed can find better jobs; those facing eviction or the shutoff of utilities can be helped to avoid loss of these critical aspects of life.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the efficient compassion of its staff, and knowing that desperate, hungry and dispirited members of my community can get practical, relevant and situation-changing assistance.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

cheerful, compassionate and efficient.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

really address some systemic problems in the lives of the families it serves, so they could reach self-sufficiency and thrive.
