Causes: Arts & Culture
Mission: To promote and preserve folk music and storytelling as traditional art forms.
Programs: The sisters folk festival is a three-day celebration of american music, from blues to bluegrass. The festival is a public event held the weekend after labor day every september in sisters, oregon. Activities include live music on various stages from select regional, national and international performers, and the americana song academy. In connection with the festival, the organization sponsors my own two hands, a two-day community celebration of the arts from performing to visual to the written word, as well as a winter concert series.
the sisters americana project, a cross-curricular program in the sisters schools, is about exploring americana folk music and arts and using them to illuminate the history, life and culture that we all share. The project provides teaching staff, guest artist workshop sessions, instruments, recording and live performance opportunities for the students. The sisters folk festival's my own two hands event is the primary funding source for this tremendously successful program.
