Seattle Tilth changed our lives! When we first moved to Seattle we took some classes from the Tilth and learned all about urban gardening. With a little bit of learning, we transformed our dead lawn into a food producing machine. We also met tons of great people and added a flock of hens to our family, all with the help of Seattle Tilth

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Offer free classes and gardening assistance to everyone in Seattle.

Seattle Tilth has been such an inspiration in my life and many of my friends. I was able to finally garden successfully with their help, and have since become highly active in urban agriculture, have expanded into owning chickens, rabbits, bees, and garden extensively. I'm so glad to see their programs expanding to teach urbanites how to compost and garden. They're really filling a unique niche. When I first became involved with Seattle Tilth, their demographic was somewhat limited, but I feel they've really reached out to more low-income and diverse communities in the past couple of years, and continue to impress me with their hard work.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my own garden, and being able to mentor others and share my knowledge that I've gained from Seattle Tilth.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

expanding my own knowledge about gardening, networking and meeting others with similar interests.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

all friendly, wonderful people! They really have big hearts and believe in what they're doing.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help Seattle and surrounding Communities build gardens to serve their residents, teach even more people how to organically garden.

Many people came to the NW Flower & Garden show in Seattle and Seattle Tilth was represented there by an organic urban farm display which included vegetables, ornamental plants, chickens and even a miniature goat. The goat was in the center of attention and stole the show. We helped visitors with Seattle Tilth information and promoted products and educational activities that help people establish healthy organic practices for their yards, gardens and urban farms.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

managing my own P-Patch and sending out information to other gardeners in my office. People comment positively on getting organic gardening information and rely on Seattle Tilth for solid gardening and yard advice.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

are very dedicated and very knowledgeable and helpful. Educational activities with children are well established and excellent. Educational activities for educators are relatively new and very promising.

Seattle Tilth is amazing! The organization brings life to the city. I served on the board for 5 years, two as board chair. Also, volunteered at major events, big time user of the garden hotline, and a super big fan of their Edible Plant Sale.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My own life through personal connections gained through Seattle Tilth.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

experiencing the incredibly dynamic force that compels people to converge and grow food!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

stellar, kind, and very helpful. But mainly down to earth, truly good peeps.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

affect climate change like no other! Carbon sequestration would be at an all time high with millions of new gardens being established around the country.

I was looking for a summer internship with a non profit and Tilth provided me with that experience and much more. They took the time to introduce me to their organization and allowed me to really explore the many sides of their operations. Being a small non profit, I was able to work on small to large projects and felt like I was able to make a big difference in the small amount of time I was there. I continue to work with them when I can and always try to support and promote their events and programs.

being more aware of organic and sustainable, natural agriculture. I am more aware of the food and food systems around me and recognize the importance of their work everywhere.

As a graduate student finishing up my masters degree in Environmental Education, I was recommended to contact Seattle Tilth by the garden/teaching staff from the IslandWood garden I worked and taught in last year. Since June of 2009, we have been working together to get my master's project for the University of Washington "into" the ground so to speak!! They have not only provided material and staff supports, but genuine interest in the project as well--fostering and inspiring the project even further! They have been instrumental in the development of this project and I am fortunate to have access to such a supportive organization/community!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

taking their COG (comprehensive gardening) class this past spring. It was one of the best classes I've had all year---and as a grad student I've taken a lot of classes! From their hands-on approach, to the guides provided, the learners' needs were met.

There would have been smaller groups, more gardening space to work, more staff to work with the groups, and stools to sit on during the lecture components!

I took the Chickens 101 class and learned a ton about backyard chicken keeping. The class gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to set up a coop and take care of chickens in my back yard. Now I'm reaping all the benefits!

expand its outreach to and education of all different types of communities to give more people the power to grow food

Seattle Tilth is often thought of as an gardening organization, not an organization that has a significant impact on region's environment. I think that is unfortunate and short sighted and here's why: Gardening takes the abstract idea of the

I've been a volunteer for Seattle Tilth for 11 years, and I just keep signing up for more because it's such a wonderful organization. The classes they provide are excellent quality and affordable, the events are festive, educational, and help to build a flourishing community. The beneficial impact Tilth has on our community is long reaching. Seattle Tilth, has taught me to grow my own food, keep chickens and bees, compost, conserve water, eliminate toxic chemicals in my yard, reduce storm water run off, and to support the local farmers to build a sustainable food system. They also have provided me with many learning opportunities through volunteering and helped me to connect with other people in the community. Thank you Seattle Tilth for all you do for our environment and community!
