Community Reviews

Rating: 5 stars

The Real Life Center is a wonderful example of a non-profit done right. They serve the community in many capacities not limited to food and clothing donations. They also follow families to make sure that they are going to be ok. They are very good stewards of donations and have a volunteer staff that is eager and enthusiastic. In this time of economic uncertainty, it is good to know that The Real Life Center is there for families.

What an amazing place the Real Life Center is!! The Executive Director, staff, and volunteers have such amazing love for the hurting clients that come through their doors. It is an honor to serve with this organization.

I started working at the Real Life Center in 2011 as an assistant to the Executive Director. I have sense expanded my role into a Project Manager over seeing all of the IT projects at the center as well as making sure the Executive Director is kept happy and does not have to worry about Admin stuff.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have referred several people to the center as well as, watched first hand the life changing experience the center has on people.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

better technology, written standard operating procedures, video in the lobby for clients, training videos for volunteers, and expansion into other counties.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

This group does so much right, this one is hard. I would say make it easier for me to sign-up to volunteer and track my hours online and communicate with other volunteers.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

Coming from a technology background we are all about the processes and working at the Real Life Center taught me about how important people are and that you can never go wrong when you take time to invest in those around you. I also learned that when a community comes together to help their neighbor it is powerful.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

I love working at the Real Life Center. I feel like they really care about their volunteers and go out of their way to appreciate them.

This organization is one of the best that I have been involved with. They have many different ministries within the organization and are associated with a church, but do not require the people they help to be Christians. They have a clothes closet, a food pantry, a bread ministry, financial counselors, financial assistance, and even more. They also have a thrift store to help increase their budget. All of the staff and volunteers go out of their way to help, and if there is nothing they can do, they are great with referrals and very involved with other nonprofits in the community.
