PO Box 10237 New Iberia LA 70562 USA

The Progressive Education Program, Inc. (PEPI) was established  in Iberia Parish in  1976. It is a successful, comprehensive education program that serves approximately 200 adults yearly in three program components:

  • Basic Adult Literacy: Adults who cannot read or who read below the 4h grade educational level
  • Adult Basic Education: Adults who wish to improve their math, reading, and language skills and or obtain a GED
  • English Language Learners(ELL): Adults who do not speak English as their first language and who wish to learn how to read and speak English to improve their skills and or to obtain a GED

Our long range goal is to reduce the number of adults in Iberia civil Parish without a high school diploma by helping them to obtain a GED.  We hope in the next five years to have 80% of the adults in the program meet the Benchmarks for the state, and that 60% of our adults will stay in the program long enough to get their GED.

We work with adults who are in need of basic education, in need of improving their academic skills, in need of a GED, and/or in need of learning to speak and write English.  Each learners on entering the program sets basic personal goals, which are entered in the software program LACES.  We hope to have 75% of the learners meet their personal goals.  For some it's being able to move up one functioning level, for example, from 4.0 grade level  to 6.0 grade level.  For others, it may obtaining their GED.   For the ELL adults, it usually has to do with learning to understand English, to speak and write it. Some do obtain their GED.
