My 97 year old aunt is moving in to PPH in July 2013. We had our tour in the latter part of May 2013. PPH is wonderful! The facility my aunt now resides in is sad and pathetic, as though the few residents residing there were just waiting out their time. Very little to do of any interest. The few residents sitting in the main tv room seemed to be just staring at the tv without realizing or caring what they were actually watching. The food at this same horrible facility is horrendous and not fit for a dog. I personally had diner there and can't imagine the senior residents being able to tolerate or digest any of it.
Now PPH on the other hand is a bustling little city unto itself. A lot of the residents are out about throughout the facility. I can truly state that I did not see one resident who looked unhappy, forlorn or lost. Everybody had a smile on their faces and they were all so very friendly and willing to answer any questions I or my aunt had. We asked many questions of the residents and they were random selections. We asked residents in the dining room, in the hallways and everywhere our tour took us we stopped and asked questions. Not one of the 11 residents we spoke with had a negative thing to say about PPH. They were so excited that my aunt was considering PPH and let her know that she would not be disappointed if she moved in. The residents we questioned freely told us all kinds of things about PPH especially when it came to the food. They rated the food as extremely good. As we had lunch as part of our tour I can speak for my aunt and I that the food was wonderful. The food was first of all very fresh and it was served hot or cold as the dish warranted. The seafood salad was extremely tasty and all the ingredients were fresh as if just picked or fished. I cannot say enough good about PPH and my aunt is eagerly awaiting her move in. Hope this helps there isn't a better place to bring your loved one.

I recently had a family crisis. Elderly parents living in their house, one is hospitalized the other cannot be alone in the house. My sister and I cope with the day to day care of the one left at home. We knew PPH was there. We had information about PPH, and conversation with our parents prior to this event, but they were never ready to leave their house. From the first encounter with all of the staff at PPH, everyone is helpful and supportive. My parents receive excellent care and now are in the Personal Care area of PPH. Many facilities indicate they are a family, but PPH is a community family. Not only do my parents receive help, but my sister and I are assisted by the Resident Care Coordinator. Benevolent care also is a mission of PPH, and my family has participated in offerings on a weekly basis for this mission. To tour PPH you see Benevolent care in action.

I have lived in Lawncrest for over 50 years and PPh has always been a part of the Community. Until recently, I had never been to their facility, but always heard from friends and neighbors what a wonderful place it was when their loved ones became residents. No matter what section they chose to reside , residents and visitors always were in warm and caring atmosphere. A friend of mine who is a RN had her mother-in-law residing at PPh and would always remark that she could have received any better care or treatment even if she had been caring for her.

I am involved in many organizatons in the Lawncrest neighborhood and PPh always openstheir doors to many groups in the area. Wheather they are providing a meeting space for one of the groups or if I am their for one of their scheduleded programs, the staff is always warm and friendly as well helpful.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

....most recently when a co-worker of mine was in for rehab after knee replacement surgery and I went to visit her on several occassions and saw and heard fron her about the wonderful staff and facility and wonderful care she was receiving.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I wouldn't want to change things as much as I would like to help them in their daily process of making the quality of life, for those on the down side of the hill, better and more enjoyable.

My Aunt Betty recently moved into the PPH. Her apartment is beautiful, and she was thrilled to bring all her familiar furnishings from home to her new home. The care she receives is outstanding, and comes from the heart of all the kind people who work there. Aunt Bett really struggled with leaving her home, but all that is behind her now, as she has re-connected with friends and neighbors who also reside at PPH.

To Whom It May Concern :

I had a personal experience with PPH. On December 24, 2011 my sister was admitted to PPH. Mary was transferred from another place in New Jersey. She was diagonsed with a fatal brain disease called Jacob Cruzenfeld . From the first day we were there the care and support given to Mary and my family was overwhelming.Marianne Cassizzi was instrumental in getting Mary admitted and what a geat job she did. I will always be grateful to her. I could go on and on about the great experience we had at PPH. My husband and I visted many nursing homes but when we visited the PPH we fell in love with it. The cleanliness and the the support of the staff was amazing . The staff were so personal and efficient toward Mary, it made us feel so good at a time we felt so helpless they were there. Mary passed away on January 7th and I wished with all my heart she knew of the beautiful place where she was. I know she would of loved it . We highly recommend PPH to anyone especially having gone through this sad time that we had to with our sister. I will always be grateful to PPH for there caring support and kindness to the patients. Our family will always highly recommend PPH to anyone.

I am going to PPH for 20 years. First - joined the Arthritis Water Exercises and what a fun and helpful experience it is. The supervision and cleanliness of the facility is beyond reproach. Also price-wise very acceptable with the help of Silver Sneakers - affordable for all.
The last few years I am Volunteer which PPH is so appreciative rewarding us with a really nice Luncheon in the Spring and a nice Tea Party with Entertainment at Xmas time. I also at this time am the Seamstress who does the alterations for the people residing in the home. I enjoy doing the sewing as everyone is so pleasant. My brother also volunteers over there and is so happy what he does - working 1 day as Employee cafeteria cashier. We just enjoy going over there for lunch as the food is so wonderful and really moderately priced. For the folks living there - it is marvelous - they have a lot of activities and always adding more. PPH is well kept and certainly well run. I have only good things to say about PPH...

As President of The Arcadia Foundation, I am pleased to be able to write on behalf of The Philadelphia Protestant Home. Each time I visit PPh, I am always delighted to see the happy, smiling faces of both the staff and residents. It has been my pleasure to support their efforts to ensure the more than 600 residents served live out their lives in a place they can call “home”.

As someone who has experienced aging parents and relatives, you get to visit lots of elder care facilities. PPH is one of the best run facilites I have visited and worked with. The facility is amazing in the care of the people first and it is manifested throughout the facility as well. It is one of the only elder care facilities that does not smell at all. It is alway immaculate. The residents there are very active and have a sence of community because it is more than just a place to live.

IF YOU EVER LIVED IN A SMALL TOWN OR A SMALL STREET YOU KNOW THE FEELING OF SECURITY WHEN YOU WALK OUT YOUR DOOR AND YOU KNOW EVERYONE AND ARE WELCOME IN ANY HOUSE. THE CLOSENESS SURROUNDS YOU LIKE A CLOAK OF WARMTH AND LOVE. THIS IS WHAT LIVING AT PPH FEELS LIKE EVERY DAY. THE PLACES TO GO AND THE THINGS TO DO NEVER ENDS AND ALL WITH PEOPLE YOU LOVE BEING WITH. I THANK GOD EVERY DAY THAT MY PATH OF LIFE BROUGHT ME HERE.

My family has been involved with PPH in various ways in volunteer positons since the mid 1940's. They have continued to serve their residents in a kind and loving environment since then. They have never wavered in advocating for the elderly and providing them with much needed services. My mother not only retired from working in the laundry at PPH but then chose it as her own home 6 years ago. She has not been sorry and continues to enjoy the home like atmosphere and her interaction with the staff who treat her with respect. They deserve this award.

My own home. My family really felt this home was valuable in the community. My grandmother served as President of the Ladies Auxillary many years ago. It was their involvement as volunteers that instilled the "volunteer spirit" in myself and the importance of believing in the facility that you devote your time to helping. If they hadnot believed in the mission of PPH, they would not have stayed.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

No changes are necessary. They keep a close eye on changes affecting geriatric care and make adjustments when necessary.
