Reviews for North America Outdoor Institute

Rating: 4 stars

NAOI provides outdoor safety education programs that are interactive, fun and provide valuable information on ways to recreate safely. The programs are presented by professional instructors and experts in the field and focus on real-life situations to make it easy to learn and practice skills.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

In the past seven years this organization has reached more than 25,000 individuals. Many of these people return to learn more and expand their knowledge through a variety of courses we provide after their initial training. I have spoken to dozens of people that say this information has helped them plan, recreate and travel safer as a result.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find a way to secure additional funding so that the programs could be offered free of charge in schools and communities across the nation.

Will you volunteer or donate to this organization beyond what is required of board members?

Definitely

How much of an impact do you think this organization has?

Providing community education programs that are interactive, fun and full of useful information you can use immediately in your personal life. Professional instructors that are personable and easy to learn from.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the way they provide free or low-cost education programs that include multi-media and hands-on lessons with equipment.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Focus on getting more corporate sponsors and hiring staff to do the multitude of tasks that include the website, curriclum, marketing and media.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

working with the people involved and interacting with the public. Seeing someone use an avalanche beacon for the first time and understand why it's important.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

smart, interesting, active, positive role models and fun to be around.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Provide captivating, life-saving education programs that reach all types of learners in every school and community in America. They could continue their work to help change the culture of being prepared and taking responsibility for our decisions.

Ways to make it better...

There had been more instructors to keep groups smaller and more time to explore all the lessons.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Getting enough volunteers and financial resources. The public wants and needs to know some practical skills but they can't afford to pay. Especially in today's economy.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This group has done a lot with very little. They need new volunteers, revenue sources and energy to help them evolve into the full operation they are capable of achieving.
