Mission: Newburyport youth hockey league, inc. (nyhl) was established in 1986 to teach the sport of ice hockey to children up to and including high school ages. The nyhl draws it's members primarily from the city of newburyport and includes approximately 225 members.
Programs: There are nine board members, 17 coaches, 34 assistant coaches and several parents volunteering their time to provide programs to approximatley 225 children for hockey instruction and skills. Nyhl collects monies (program revenue) to cover the costs to teach the sport of hockey.
profits received from the sale of clothing help to lower required contributions of parents which then allows the children of parents with less financial means to participate. In some years the cost of clothing exceeds revenues.
during the year ended march 31, 2013, the nyhl started a project with the friends of newburyport hockey (fonh). The purpose of the project is to provide funding for work on the locker rooms at the graf rink in newburyport, which is owned by the department of conservation and recreation or dcr and is a non-profit governmental agency.
