Issues: Animals

Location: 70 Portman Rd New Rochelle NY 10801 USA

Mission: The New Rochelle Humane Society was founded in 1911 to provide care for lost, abandoned, injuried or mistreated animals. We are a priviate 501(c)(3) organization that offers animals in need a comfortable living environment, appropriate medical care and the loving attention they deserve.
Programs: There is great need to reduce the overpopulation of domestic animals worldwide. Locally, the low-cost spay/neuter program of the New Rochelle Humane Society targets this concern. NRHS offers outreach education in the public schools and provides literature on understanding and caring for animals. We are also proud to have a veterinary technician as our Shelter Manager, affording us the opportunity to bring current healthcare information not only to our shelter, but to our adopting pet parents as well. NRHS also makes visits with pets to nursing homes. The pets provide therapy and entertainment for the patients. One of NRHS recent accomplishments was scheduling a series of Dog Adoption Days at various pet supply stores within a 40 mile radius, bringing the pets to potential adopters, rather than waiting for them to come to the shelter.

Community Reviews

Rating: 5 stars

This is a great experience for all animal-lovers and people who want to help out their community. The last person to review this organization said that the staff are not friendly or helpful. With some (not all) staff this is the case, but people who truly want to help the animals should not care if the staff is not completely attentive. And if the staff is very rude, that's even more reason to volunteer- the animals need people in their lives to love and care for them. The Humane Society does not really give volunteers specific tasks, it's all up to the individual where to spend time, but the animals enjoy the company and so do the volunteers. At least I do. Overall, I love to spend time volunteering at the Humane Society and I definitely recommend it.

I'm not surprised that I am the first person to write a review about the New Rochelle Humane Society. If I could have given this organization no stars I would have. They don't deserve the mention of a star. Some how they forgot that "Humane" is a general concept and not just used to describe the treatment of animals. This organization was not friendly and they failed to offer any favorable customer service skills the visitors who were unknown to them. This particular organization seemed to have a frequent customers so those who enter and are unknown to them do not receive any attention upon arrival. Once you solicit thier services they then become bewildered and inquire how you got past them without notice. This organization left a sour taste in my mouth. I felt as if I was in High School again, you know the cool kids vs the others, not part of the group. Don't waste your time with the New Rochelle Humane Society unless your a popular kid or animal.
