I learned of Music in the Schools through a radio announcement. The organization was holding a instrument drive. Locals were asked to drop off unused musical instruments for our public school youth (after they were repaired free of charge by a music shop). Music in the Schools is providing a service greatly needed, especially in this time of budget cuts in arts education.

I am a director of an arts education advocacy organization in town and look forward to working with Music in the Schools.

Our drum line has participated in the Music In The Schools Mariachi and Drumline competition for two years. The event was well organized and allowed a great venue for our drum line to present their talent to the city of San Antonio. The enjoyment my students express by performing at this event cannot be understated. We look forward to participating in this event in the future as well as supporting Music In The Schools whenever we can.

I first started working with Music In The Schools as a volunteer, then agreed to serve on the Board of Directors when I experienced first-hand the positive impact the oganization has on music programs in the schools. Even before the current economic crisis, there has been a steady erosion of funding for music programs in the public schools. Music In The Schools has not only raised money to assist music programs in the schools but also helped bring public awareness to the benefit of keeping music programs in the schools. The founder, Lynette Brehm, has worked tirelessly to insure that all children hear music in their schools--now and in the future!

We participated in a music contest organized by Music in the Schools in conjunction witht the US Army Bowl, and from the very beginning we felt it was going to be a very pleasant and educational experience.
We had a personal tour guide assigned to our group for the duration of the event, and the organization so impeccable that we completed our schedule without incident or delay. The students were pampered with attention and activities, and also given the opportunity to explore career choices with the armed forces.
The contest was very well planed, and the accomodations were more than adequate; for example, the sound system and stage were professional grade level and they helped enhance our group's performance.
Previous to this activity, Ms. Brehm had held an informative session at our school, and everything she promised the students was delivered truthfully, including a generous donation to our program that will help us provide our senior students with a small scholarship for their college books once they graduate from High School.
Our kids now perceive Music in the Schools as a trustworthy organizatiion, and they are eager to participate again next year.

Music in the Schools provided my students with an unforgettable experience and a wonderful venue to showcase their talents. The US Army All-American Bowl Mariachi Competition was an event that they could not stop talking about. They had an amazing time. I would like to commend everyone that was involved in making the event a success. Thank you.

The Edgewood Fine Arts Academy Mariachi was selected to perform at the Sunset Station in the US ARMY and MUSIC IN THE SCHOOLS Mariachi and Drum Corp Contest on Friday January 7, 2011 at 6:00 PM. We arrived at 4:00 PM and were escorted to have a dinner lunch of delicious turkey and cheese sandwiches with chips and drinks. After that we were escorted to see the US ARMY exhibits in front of the Alamodome. The students all got free backpacks, caps, pedometers, and water bottles. Some students even climbed the rock wall, rode the helicopter simulators and did pushups for a football prize. Then it was time to get dressed for the contest. We were number 5 in the line up. We got on stage and performed our 3 songs. We also got to see the other groups perform. Although we came in last we were vey appreciative to the people of Music in the Schools and the US Army because we had a GREAT time! All the people with Music in the Schools and the US Army were super friendly and helpful to us. We look forward to participate again next year!

I am the program director of KPAC, the classical music station in San Antonio. We partnered with Music in the Schools to promote their instrument drive, because their mission compliments our own; to educate the public about music.

We are very happy with the results of the drive, with the communication between Music in the Schools and us. We look forward to working with Music in the Schools again!

At first, I was a bit apprehensive when I first heard about "Music In The Schools." Over the years many organizations told us they could help fund our programs. We decided that we would participate in their event. The organizers and volunteers were very organized and helpful. We felt very comfortable and welcomed when greeted. We were also treated very well. It was colder than what we were used to so outdoor heaters were set-up so that we could participate in comfort. In other words, this organization went out of their way to make everyone feel great about their participation and made us feel comfortable given the bad weather conditions. Even the audiences comfort was evident. With the funding that we received, we were able to purchase some instrument and uniform accessories that the school does not provide. We are thankful to Music in the Schools for providing a venue for us to showcase our talent, but also for helping our students look and feel good about themselves.
