MAQS was founded in 1991 to honor today's quilter by providing a venue for professional exhibits and educating in general about the art. Three exhibit galleries allow MAQS, the largest quilt museum the world, to display selections from its own collection of quilts made in the 1980's & 1990's as well as temporary exhibits of new and antique quilts, providing a context for viewing today's activity. Lectures, workshops and other activities are also offered, along with over 400 publications on quilts, textiles &their history in the book and gift shop.
