Reviews for MEOR-HERITAGE RETREATS FOUNDATION INC

Rating: 5 stars

MEOR has single handedly transformed my life. I have had over five years of experience with MEOR on two college campuses- Emory University as an undergraduate and the University of Pennsylvania as a law student. MEOR provided me with a stress-free, open-dialogue and intellectually-stimulating approach to Judaism through classes and experiences so that I could make an educated decision about my own Judaism. The MEOR staff is made up of warm, highly intelligent, and amazing role models. If it weren’t for my involvement in MEOR, I never would have developed such a strong connection to Israel and the Jewish people, which led me to seek a job at the Supreme Court in Israel.

Meor is an absolutely incredible organization. I was part of MEOR for 1.5 years while undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania and remain involved in my two years since graduated.
MEOR has changed my life for the better by going out on a limb to take a chance on me. Whereas many other organizations in this space operate in order to keep students connected to any aspect of Judaism, MEOR allows students to understand the underlying reasons a particular tradition exists in the first place. The impact from MEOR affects my life on a daily basis and the educators associated with the program have continued to support me, even since I have graduated and no longer "technically" in the program, unlike many other institutions where Professors or Teachers rarely keep up with students once they are out of any given program. Thank you MEOR for taking a chance on me, supporting me, and continuing to encourage me.

MEOR has provided me with the foundation necessary to lead an honest, fulfilling Jewish lifestyle. If it were not for them, I would continue to be lost in a sometimes crazy world. Their staff is professional, helpful, and dedicated to each person who goes through their program.

Meor offers an emotionally-powerful and intellectually-intense presentation of some of Judaism's core philosophy and law. Through this organization's seminars and shabbatone experiences I developed a deep-seated connection with my Jewish heritage. I highly recommend looking into their programs on your campus.

MEOR is a unique organization with a beautiful mission to connect students with their Jewish roots. The staff is caring, intellectual, and balanced, and students who go through MEOR programs are of the highest caliber. I've seen MEOR change so many lives for the better in many different ways and have the utmost respect for this organization.

Working with Meor has been a fulfilling experience. The program is geared entirely toward servicing and building it's participants through an expanded self-awareness, and a self-confidence to learn and grow. I look forward to more opportunities to continue working with Meor in the future.

I found Heritage retreats to be an incredible experience, both for those with and without knowledge of Judaism. The caring and dedication of the staff was really unbelievable. I left the week inspired, uplifted, and with my commitment to Judaism renewed.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

helping unaffilated Jews learn more about their heritage.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

no comment.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The inspiring classes.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

wonderful!!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

do unbelievable things. It could reach out and change so many people's lives and show them the beauty of Judaism.

Ways to make it better...

no comment.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

lack of funding.

One thing I'd also say is that...

no comment.

I was a participant in the January 2007 Heritage Retreat held in Santa Barbara, California. I feel extremely privileged to have been a part of it because it impacted me in truly lasting way. Providing young women like myself with highly intelligent, inspiring and sincere teachers, Heritage Retreats gave me a venue to probe my personal connection to my Jewish heritage and discover its true meaning. The program offered me an accepting place to ask my questions and get real answers; a place to meet bright, young women like myself and experience much of what I had only heard about. We had illuminating classes discussing differ topics such as prayer, philosophy and modern issues, where the staff would take the extra time to get to the bottom of a complex or hot-button topic such as style of dress. We spent time hiking, horseback riding and enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings of the ranch where the program was held; and we experienced a touching and memorable Shabbos together with the staff and families who came in for the weekend to be with us. Overall, Heritage Retreats reconnected me in a significant way to my Jewish heritage. After participating in the program, I felt that I wanted to learn more and a few months later, I decided that I would try further Jewish learning at Neve Yerushalayim, a seminary in Jerusalem.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

sincere, kind, open, always, ALWAYS available for questions and completely wonderful.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

impact the Jewish world in a hugely positive way: by creating Jews who LOVE their Judaism and want it to be meaningful for themselves and the next generations.

Ways to make it better...

the week-long experience was longer, or at least had the option for women to spend more time at the program if they chose to.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding. They have many, many young women (and men) that they could reach if only they could have more programs.

One thing I'd also say is that...
