Mending Hearts Charities, Inc. is dedicated to the revitalization of the Holden Heights community in Orlando, Florida. We will focus on building relationships that ensure a quality neighborhood, economic development, and healthy stable families. Mending Hearts Charities, Inc. will provide basic affordable housing and facilitate programs that make the community a better place to live.

Mending Hearts provides families low income rental housing. We have 58 affordable housing units. When they walk thru our door, we lift a heavy burden from the family. Having a decent place to stay at for an affordable price it almost a thing of the past unless it is government supported. We are proud to say, we have done it on our own! Hard work and many volunteers hours have taken this organization to the next step. We provide our families with personal care items, furniture and clothing to those that need it. We provide holiday gift baskets throughout the year and in December we have a huge holiday party and send our families home with a bag full of new clothing, personal care items, something for their home, toys and reading books for everyone.

I had a blast, the kids were awesome and so appreciative of us being there. They were polite and positive is doing all we asked them to do! We played games, did face painting, made lunch with them, and did games outside for an hour.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

a positive way, every little thing you do matters. Things we take for granted are sometimes dreams for others. If you only have an hour, spend it doing something to make the life of someone else better.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

spending time with the kids. They are so cute and loving. They don't expect much, an hour of my time when I am available. I don't feel pressured if something comes up, but I sure miss them if I don't go. They have so much to say in such a short time

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

really caring and lots of fun. They work so hard to make everything perfect. It is amazing what they can do with a few dollars.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

pay off the mortgages for the homes, install central air in the homes, termite tent the homes, pay property taxes it owes, provide job training for its clients, day care for babies, monthly field trips. Plus a van and box truck to pick up donations.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every month

Our group volunteers for this organization every year. We have so much fun and the kids are wonderful. Truly an eye opening experience. We are now involved every Monday in the after school tutoring program. Great things are happening with these kids one family at a time. Get involved you won't be sorry. They really need consistent volunteers and donors. Every dollar donated pays for the utilities for the families they serve.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

out of this world. They are so devoted to making a difference in this community. Each child is treated like kings and queens. They really do appreciate our being there to help. The hugs and smiles make it all worthwhile.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

payoff all the existing mortgages, hire a full time maintenance person, and provide the basic needs to its clients. Central air conditioners and washers in every home. Pay off the tax bills for the infrastructure #1 on the list.
