MASON COUNTY LITERACY Overview
Someone who had 3 hours of volunteer time could: plan and teach a lesson in a one-on-one, small group, or classroom setting. Someone could also help out in our office by answering phones, doing data entry, and supporting staff.
Geographic areas served: Mason County & Thurston County
Programs: Adult Basic Education (ABE): One-on-one and small group tutoring in reading, writing, math, or GED prep. Volunteers and staff design and teach lessons tailored to individual student's goals and learning styles.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL): One-on-one and small group instruction in English language skills. Volunteers and staff plan and teach lessons incorporating reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Civics lessons provide immigrant students with the information necessary for them to be active participants in their new community.
Children's Program: Literacy-based childcare is provided for students requiring childcare in order to attend classes. Our morning program caters to infants and toddlers, while our evening program cares for school-age children.
