League of United Latin American Citizens Council 2055 Overview
Programs: LULAC Council #2055 Youth Group is made up of local high school students form Alisal and Everett Alvarez High School and is committed to teach Latino youth the importance of community service learning, philanthropy, and volunteerism. The LULAC Youth Group members develop leadership skills, critical thinking, problem solving, and research skills through activie participation in our program. More specifically youth are responsible for organizing the following community events including; 16 de Septiembre Celebration, Día de Los Muertos Celebration, Cinco de Mayo Celebration, LULAC Youth Leadership Conference and the Orgullo Latino Dance (Latino Dance Pride).
LULAC believes that youth civic engagement is a powerful community developmental tool, offering young people relationships, networks, challenges, and opportunities – fundamental ingredients of positive youth development. It is an approach that recognizes youth as valued resources with unique insights and perspectives on community problems. As it challenges youth to contribute, it also nurtures social connections. Our model clearly goes beyond the prevention model that sees youth as problems and defines outcomes in negatives –not getting pregnant, not using drugs, not dropping our of school, not committing crimes – to one that appreciates youth as producers, contributors, creators and leaders.
