To restore and protect barnegat bay and its ecosystem by being a strong independent voice for the bay throughout the watershed. We do this through effective educational programs and targeted advocacy campaigns in the community and all of new jersey.
Advocacy campaignsgenerated over 6,000 postcards to the governor's office to declare barnegat bay impaired under the clean water act. Testified at a 6 legislative committees and/or hearings to influence legislation. Submitted comments on the record for proposed policy issues, met with elected and appointed officials regarding projects and policies that affect barnegat bay. Wrote opinion/editorial media to affect public sentiment regarding important topics. Posted regular "push" content on social media vehicles to advocate for sound environmental practices.
education and outreach programs provided education about barnegat bay's ecosystem and conservation to 400 adults at various public events in ocean county and 210 k-12 and college students through outreach programs and presentations. Attended 20 public events during six (6) months at which 1,000 pieces of literature were distributed to individuals, 400 postcards to the governor were signed, and 40 volunteers were recruited.
projectsassisted in the development of grant proposals to help the community recover from hurricane sandy in a sustainable way, including native plant gardens and rain barrel workshops. Assisted in the preservation of the pete mclain papers, a archival collection of a legendary new jersey conservationist who died in 2014.
