I had an excellent experience with the IOV USA Section when I contributed to a youth congress they organized in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2008. I also volunteered for a project they had in Washington State
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
promoting an internatinoal folk festival featuring dance and musical groups from many countries
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
try to find more financial support so that more programs could be implemented. The organization is a good one -
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the people that I've met. When I attended the IOV Youth Congress in Bountiful, Utah, I met people from 40 difference countries. We spent 5 days listening to lectures, watching videos and hearing what each other was doing in folk art in their own country
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
from all over the world, people who were interested in international folk dance, music and costuming, international cuisine and traditional food, traditional medicine, architecture and home construction.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
hire a staff to implement the programs and projects. There are too many things this organization can be doing for it to be handled entirely by volunteers.
Ways to make it better...
there had been more people both volunteering and participating in the conference
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Overcoming the eventuality that globalization will erase the distinctions between various cultures and nationalities. There aren't many people in the US who really care about preserving their traditional folk cultures.
One thing I'd also say is that...
This is an outstanding organization. I feel that anything i contribute to this organization will be well used.
