Programs:

Ending Canada's commercial seal hunt is IFAW's founding campaign. This hunt is inhumane, unnecessary, wasteful, and presents a serious animal welfare and conservation concern. In spite of the fact that the majority of Canadians oppose Canada's commercial seal hunt, and that global markets for seal products appear to be decreasing, the Canadian Government continues to support this hunt financially and set high and unsustainable allowable catches. All four major political parties currently support Canada's commercial seal hunt.

Has anyone noticed the large number of reviews written on June 26, 2015 most of which read like excerpts from their website? Seems a bit contrived.

Founded in 1969, the International Fund for Animal Welfare saves individual animals, animal populations and habitats all over the world. With projects in more than 40 countries, IFAW provides hands-on assistance to animals in need, whether it's dogs and cats, wildlife and livestock, or rescuing animals in the wake of disasters. They also advocate saving populations from cruelty and depletion, such as our campaign to end commercial whaling and seal hunts.

Vision: IFAW vision is a world where animals are respected and protected.

Mission: IFAW rescues and protects animals around the world.

Promise: They promise supporters and policy makers effective animal protection solutions delivered with intelligence, compassion and integrity.

Belief: IFAW believes in the intrinsic value of animals and that we have a responsibility to protect them from suffering and unnecessary exploitation.

Work: They rescue and care for individual animals and deliver effective solutions for the long-term protection of animal populations and habitats.

They promote addressing animal welfare concerns in policy, legislation and society.

Team: Their team includes rescue workers, veterinarians, policy experts, campaigners, scientists, educators and the highest quality support staff all driven by a determination to help animals in need.

Approach: They are international, with local expertise and leadership in all of our field offices. Through strong international coordination, they leverage regional campaigns and projects to achieve global influence and impact.

Their work connects animal welfare and conservation, demonstrating that healthy populations, naturally sustaining habitats and the welfare of individual animals are intertwined.

They use our hands-on projects on the ground to inform and influence policy.

They are sensitive to the needs of communities and work for solutions that benefit both animals and people.

IFAW is a small org that pays huge salaries. The CEO gets $325K; the former CEO who retired two years ago, is still paid $350K (how that works, I have no idea). Everyone else on the management team earns $175K.n Charity Navigator gives IFAW the lowest possible rating for financial performance. The director of corp comm's husband reports to her, a gross conflict of interest. IFAW spends millions on a few pet projects (seals, elephants and whales, particularly) yet has very little to show for their efforts spanning many, many years. Donate to animal rescue -- it's a worthy cause -- but give it to orgs that actually have a record of success and not to orgs that have bloated, slow-acting leadership. Sign me, former, and wiser, donor.

I stopped donating after I learned the exec team is paid outrageous sums ((millions). Only 61 percent of what they take in goes to programs and if you search the media for success stories of their work, you'll find very little. Charity Navigator gives them only two stars. Notably, they receive only one star for financial performance. IFAW's revenues come mainly from outside the US and I suspect that's because they have so littlie credibility or visibility in the US. ALL I CAN SAY, FOLKS, IS THAT I HAVE BEEN AN ANIMAL PROTECTOR FOR OVER 60 YEARS AND, BELIEVE ME, I DO NOT THROW MONEY AWAY ON ORGS. I DO NOT BELIEVE ARE SINCERE IN REALLY HELPING THE ANIMAL VICTIMS OF ABUSE AND NATURAL DISASTERS AND ONLY BELIEVE IN LINING THEIR OWN POCKETS WITH MONEY!!!! I HAVE SEEN FIRST HAND WHAT THESE BLESSED PEOPLE DO TO HELP THESE VICTIMS IN TIMES OF DISASTERS ALL OVER THE WORLD. AND BELIEVE ME, INDIA HAS BEEN THE WORST WITH DISASTERS!!!

GOD BLESS THEM ALL AND ONLY SHOULD MANY BLESSING COME THEIR WAY!!!

Although I cannot afford to donate for every cause, I do manage to send small amounts to support their efforts when I feel that a situation needs immediate donations (as many do), no matter how small. I appreciate their incredible efforts and the fact that they send me information on the status of various projects that are in progress or have been resolved. They are doing absolutely wonderful and much-needed work to rescue and to see that animals are treated humanely and cared for properly throughout the world. (I truly wish that I were able to provide them with more monetary support.)

I love IFAW because they help ALL animals, whether it be domestic, farm or wild. They truly care about the well being of all animals in ALL parts of the world. I feel so strongly about the positive direction IFAW takes that I am leaving some of my estate to the organization when I depart this world.

This organization reaches all over our world to right wrongs against animals and to insure their freedom. IFAW has made a great impact on all species threatened by Nature and by Man, and continues to protect the future of all living things.

I love IFAW. I've been donating for many years now and am fully supportive of their far-reaching global work that covers many areas. From helping domestic animals to wildlife rehabilitation to worldwide sanctuaries, emergency response in natural disasters and fighting injustices such as the Canadian seal hunt - IFAW is there. They're very informative, telling members how their donations are being used. I'm very proud to be a member of IFAW.
