Houston Ballet Foundation

Houston Ballet Foundation was formed in 1955 and chartered for the purpose of conserving and advancing the art form of dance.  Houston Ballet Academy, a school for nurturing talented dance students toward professional dance careers, was established that same year.  Since 2003, the company has been led by Artistic Director Stanton Welch, a young Australian choreographer who has brought new energy and excitement to Houston Ballet.  Now in its 40th year, Houston Ballet, with 54 full-time professional dancers, prides itself as one of the top five ballet companies in the U.S.

Furthermore, Houston Ballet is committed to inspiring a lifelong love of the arts, educating youth about the art of dance, and reaching the diverse populations of our area.  The organization’s Education Outreach efforts include free student matinee performances for over 7,000 school children annually, Studio Series Lecture/Demonstration program, Chance to Dance, and HBII – which takes performances directly to schools and community centers throughout the region.
