Five years ago, I sadly lost my mother to breast cancer. During her final days, she was a resident at the Williamsburg Hospice House, and I am not sure there are the words to express how grateful I am that this organization exsists within the Williamsburg-area. The warmth and devotion of their staff, who went to great pains to ensure that, not only was my mother comfortable, but that myself, father and brother were, too, was extraordinary. Additionally, the patience that they exhibited as various friends of my parents, travelled, from all over the country, to say their last good-byes to my mother was both kind and extremely generous. Lastly, the Williamsburg Hospice House provides free grief-counseling, for up to one year, for the family members of people who passed away, while in residence there. This was both a valuable and much-needed resource for me, as I went through a very difficult time, and I am grateful for not only the kindness, but the expertise of their grief counselors. While no one ever wants a loved one to be in hospice care, I cannot say enough good things about the Williamsburg Hospice House, and their knowledgeble, kind-hearted, and dedicated staff.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
The wonderful and gentle way in which my mother, father, and brother were treated, while my mother was a resident there.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
provide cots in the rooms for family members to sleep on.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The generosity and out-pouring of support.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
knowledgeble, kind-hearted, and sincere.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
expand it's building, to house more residents.
Ways to make it better...
Given the nature of why I had my experience with the Williamsburg Hospice and their mission, I am not sure this is a fiar question, as it pertains to this organization.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
The size of the house, as it can only have about 6 or 8 residents at time...combined with Williamsburg's aging population.
One thing I'd also say is that...
Hospice care, while not something one likes to think of, is a needed resource within communities.
