Address:

310 Morton Street Richmond TX 77469 USA

Mission:

Historic richmond associations purpose is to preserve the history of the city, the county seat, and to support businesses in this very small town of 11,000. Once a year, the city of richmond gives us $6,000 to host a christmas festival in the middle of the street with vendors and walking entertainers, all volunteers do this. The things we pay for are electricity for the vendors, stage, sound system, games for the kids area, things like that. It helps to bring people in from all over the couny. It is an all volunteer event.

Programs:

This organization in 2010 only had two members, but they kept it going. Each year, (starting in 202) the organization hosts one festival, miracle on morton street. A group of community volunteers come together to put on this free event for the public. It brings people in from all over the county, which helps people see the history of this town. Downtown richmond has two restaurants, one barber shop, two antique stores (only one is opened) and one general store for clothes and jewerly/shoes. This dying small town needs business that the festival brought in about 2,100 people which was a great success. The city gives hra $6,000 to put on this event, and we use every penny. The 40-50 vendors pay a $75 fee which this money is used to pay expenses over and above the $6,000. We pay for items for the children's area, electricity, sound system, set-up, discjocky, stage, clean-up, decorations, etc. So we usually have no money left.
