Last president bouys the company with her own wealth but still they can't pay employees or students on time or ever. This is probably because the rest of the board are no-shows and skip their mandatory meetings.
Groundwork Somerville pours their heart into their work. Each and every staff member, board member, and volunteer is committed to the success of every youth they work with, every seed they plant, and every project that will im pact the community. GWS has an incredible commitment to their work and to the improvement of their city. Three years working with GWS was the best education I've received and I think about that time often and with great appreciation.
Groundwork Somerville is a major positive force on our community. I've been volunteering with their programs for over five years, longer than anything else. The Maple Syrup Project is a highlight, making a traditional "rural north" industry a reality for students across this dense urban city. GWSomerville makes positive change in every facet of Somerville's community - education, environment, employment.
Groundwork Somerville is an amazing non-profit! The organization's success in unparalleled within the sustainability movement - it promotes a healthy environment through education; cleans-up our physical environment; and provides urban youth with REAL green jobs. It does exactly what an environmental non-profit should do: effect change.
I recently went to the Somerville Maple Syrup Boil Down - it was amazing! As a community member, and a staff member, I was floored by how well the program went. Over two days there were over 1000 people who enjoyed a great outdoor space, learning about trees in the process. I think the best part was how all the partners came together - it was great to see.
