Nonprofit Issues:

Animals

Address:

P.O. Box F Arlington MA 02476 USA

Mission:

Formed in March of 2001, GREY2K USA Worldwide is the largest greyhound protection organization in the United States and now works internationally. As a non-profit 501(c)4 organization, we work to pass stronger greyhound protection laws and to end the cruelty of dog racing on both national and international levels. We also promote the rescue and adoption of ex-racers across the globe.

Results:

We have written and passed bills making dog racing illegal in the states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Colorado. When we first began our campaign, there were 49 tracks in 15 states and now there are just 21 in seven states. Additionally, we have worked to block the expansion of dog racing to countries such as Jamaica, the Philippines and South Africa. Our research has led to the exposure of hundreds of media documented cases of greyhound cruelty and neglect, including dogs testing positive for cocaine, dogs suffering terrible injuries and dogs experiencing severe neglect at racing kennels both here and abroad. See more at http://www.grey2kusa.org/action/states.html and http://www.grey2kusa.org/who/victories.html

Direct beneficiaries per year:

by passing a bill to make Colorado the 39th state to ban dog racing

Programs:

We document the cruelty of dog racing and use our research to pass greyhound protection laws with the goal of ending dog racing worldwide. We also promote the adoption of ex-racers worldwide. Read more at http://www.grey2kusa.org/who/index.html

You will not find a more hard working and dedicated group as the GREY2K USA. Their records are transparent and they actually are SUCCESSFUL in saving living beings from torture and cruelty.

I not only support them as an individual, I also have a dedicated site on my online store and ALL profits are donated to the GREY2K USA foundation. Charity section on www.deleuse.com

Please support GREY2K USA in any capacity you can....we adopted a greyhound and she is not only our best friend, but she goes to work with us and has many people who love her. Greyhounds are sweet and calm dogs.

I have supported and worked with GREY2K USA since their inception. A dedicated, effective group accomplishing what many of us have tried to do for years. Their work is recognized worldwide. This inspirational group deserves to be rewarded for their tireless efforts to shut down the cruel dog racing industry.

There are very few nonprofits I hold in such esteem as I do Grey2k USA. If not for their consistent hard work on behalf of racing greyhounds I'm quite sure the public would have no idea of the inhumane exploitation of these wonderful dogs. And, greyhound tracks would still be flourishing instead of shutting down!

I didn't know much about greyhound racing when we adopted our first greyhound more than 3 years ago - I could have easily been swayed either way. I've never been to nor bet on a greyhound race and have no desire to do so. Anyway, it didn't take long to see Grey2k's underhanded tactics though. First, there was a photo of poor pitiful greyhound in a tiny cage, lying on a bare floor, leaning up against the side. But then I came across the original *uncropped* photo showing a huge crate with lots of bedding. That part was conveniently cropped out. And then they've stolen greyhound photos from Facebook accounts without the photographers permission to use in their literature. I know this to be a FACT - I'm friends with one of these photographers and saw the brochure one of her photos was used in. If they have to stoop to deceptive practices to make their point, they are not trustworthy enough to believe anything they have to say.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Be honest; don't twist things to suit your agenda. Don't steal people's property (photos) without their permission, and don't manipulate photos in a way that's deceptive of the truth.

This is yet another "comment" that is part of an organized campaign by greyhound breeders to (unsuccessfully) drive down our review score here. Our research is based on credible data such as state records, mainstream news reports, or the industry itself. People can look at the cited data and make up their own mind about whether greyhound is cruel and inhumane. Based on the last decade, it's pretty clear that the standard practices used in the commercial dog racing industry go against our mainstream values. Grey2K is that rare nonprofit that began with a well defined mission, dedicated enormous human resources to developing the skills and knowledge to accomplish it and are a modern day David taking down Golliath. It hasn't been easy but their commitment has never wavered and their optimism and resilience has led to exposure of inhumane treatment of racing greyhounds that in turn converted the animal loving public into advocates for change. As a veterinarian with my own animal welfare nonprofit organization I know how difficult this is to do and success comes directly from the passion and commitment of its founders. I can think of no better example of what an animal welfare organization can be and can accomplish than the example of Grey2K. I only hope that once they succeed in ending dog racing globally they will teach others how to have similar success. There are few mentors in the field of creating change through nonprofit organizations. Grey2K figured it out on their own and have done it superbly. We would all do well to have their success recognized so that others may emulate them. Sheila Lyons, DVM

My husband and I have gladly supported Grey2k's efforts since they began. Carey and Christine work so hard to end the cruelty of greyhound dog racing. They are very committed to the cause and are great about educating the public of what goes on behind the scenes for these gentle dogs. Highly recommend!

As someone who has rescued greyhounds for almost two decades now, I can't begin to tell you how important the work of Grey2K really is. Making changes legislatively is the only way things will ever get done to stop the abuse and exploitation of the most gentle breed of dog there is. They don't deserve to live a life where their life is put in danger every time the step on a track. That's the reality. No matter how clean one kennel may be, or how well maintained one breeding farm is, there are too many others that would make the average person sick to their stomach. But even if they were all as good as the misinformed like to believe, their will never be any way to justify the deaths that can and do occur at the tracks, the kennels, and the breeding farms, just so someone can place a cheap bet. It's time for all to get with the program and understand that in the year 2015 all lives matter and greyhound racing should become a barbaric part of our past.
