The Food Bank of Central New York is a not-for-profit organization working to eliminate hunger through food distribution, education and advocacy in cooperation with the community.
FBCNY operates two food rescue programs. Our Fresh Foods Program picks up dairy, produce and other perishable foods each weekday from grocery stores, wholesalers, and dairies and delivers the food to one of twenty established food distribution sites; our Second Helpings Program rescues wholesome, unserved, prepared food from restaurants, caterers and cafeterias and makes it available to programs serving meals, such as emergency soup kitchens and shelters. FBCNY is also noted for outreach, education and advocacy through our Food$ense food co-op, Food Stamp Outreach, Community Garden and our 'at risk' youth education CookShop and Kids Cafe initiatives. Funding is public and private.

Reviews for Food Bank Of Central New York
I have had the honor of working with the Food Bank of CNY since 2011. They have taught me the joy in service and the meaning of community. They are so appreciative of everyone's efforts and they are all truly committed to the fight against hunger. On behalf of the 58 student volunteers of Halloween for Hunger and the Hallowrun for Hunger 5K, it has been our privilege to support the Food Bank throughout our years in high school.

The Food Bank of Central New York is an incredible place. They took the idea of a food bank and made it so much more - not just handing out bags of food to local families in need (although they still do that, too). They coordinate large donations from local stores and businesses. They ship food to hundreds of food pantries, food banks, soup kitchens, shelters, senior centers, and emergency organizations throughout New York State. They have educational programs that teach people about nutrition, growing their own food, and give them the seeds and materials they need to keep going. They do a fantastic job marketing themselves and their cause, gaining more attention for the issue of hunger and more donations to the Food Bank - helping them buy a huge new facility last year with a ton more storage space. It even included a new fridge and freezer so they can provide even more fresh and nutritious foods to those who need them. EVERYONE in New York State should learn more about the food bank and give whatever they can or volunteer their time to help this amazing place.
