Faith Theological Seminary has graduated such theological giants as Francis August Schaeffer, who is oft credited with sparking the rise of the Christian Right in America, Vernon Grounds, President of Denver Seminary, and Kenneth Kantzer, who brought Trinity Evangelical Divinity School to prominence. The school was started by Carl McIntire, the founder of the International Council of Christian Churches, in 1937. The position of FTS is to be an institution honoring the Lord in its doctrine and teachings. FTS believes the people of God must be taught and trained in the Holy Scriptures. The schools motto "For the Faith, By Faith" epitomizes the belief that the Bible is the only rule of faith and practice. It also recognizes the Holy Bible as innerrant. FTS moved from Philadelphia to Baltimore in 2004.
